Thanks for posting this. Now I got a better quality copy of this movie.

Hmm, a F1 driver in 1978 could this have been Monsieur http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Laffite or was it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacky_Ickx

I have heard of this film but never seen it. The sheer number of red lights run by the driver is amazing. Maybe in the early hours the intersections are 4 way red, to be treated like a stop sign. Any Parisians out there know? Martin?

I'm a bit surprised a pro race driver would do such a thing since the track is a lot more controlled environment. Then again it might be a matter of perspective, since Jackie Ixx was a rain master at the Ring, a pretty hairy track.

Pete,

I don't know about the red lights in Paris, I am Swiss and usually still sleep in the early mornings

Here is another interesting movie where are another pro racer gets chased down by a undercover ghostrider. It's insane but fun too watch. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-781163969053975339&q=ghostrider

Martin,
That is totally insane; don't they have any cops on the road over there? At one point I thought I heard police sirens in the background but they never showed up so maybe that was just a coincidence. What really amazed me was the lean angle of the bike evidenced by the camera angle.

Rick,

I think the guy on the bike is an undercover cop or is he a ghostrider dressed as a cop with blue lights mounted on his bike   :burnout:

I beleive the sirens are part of the sound track. To many opportuniteis to call in backups or pull (he/she) over. Looked a little choreographed, but still awesome.

I don't know, John....... the sound track seems a bit "dubbed."

Are you sure you didn't just strap a camera to your rental car while in France  - drive like a TTOD driver  8) , and then add the soundtrack (with corny tire squeals, and 911 engine sounds from your yellow beast) later? I'm suspicious.

In reference to the video Martin posted:

My understanding is that "the Ghostrider" rides around with front and rear facing cameras, rigged up on a wicked motorcycle looking for cops to get to chase him. His movies are pretty popular and he has supposedly never been caught

In this clip, the "Ghostrider" crew has lured the Swedish race car driver to do a car version of Ghostrider. He knows they have never been caught before and he is determined not to get caught. What the driver of the car doesn't know is that Ghostrider himself is on the camera rigged up motorcycle with flashing blue lights AND sirens chasing him. He really thinks he is running from a cop.

That's why at the end when the car pulls over and the motorcycle rider starts to walk up to him, the BMW speeds away. Ghostrider gives him a thumbs up.

Anyway, that's the way the scenario was explained to me when I saw this video on another website.

I heard that the driver in the Claude Lelouch film was Rene Arnoux driving a Ferrari 275 GTB, but who knows?

I love the touch at the end when Sacré-Coeur chimes the time as he meets the girl.

Yeah i love this video also, too bad the sounds they added arent from the actual car. All staged but still inspiring. I dont suggest watching it in the morning before driving to work, i got a nice little ticket for driving a bit aggressivly...
