Considering a 2009 911 Turbo Vert - some questions

Postby flypenfly on Sun Sep 06, 2015 9:57 am

Considering trading in/selling my 2009 Boxster S for this beauty. Yeah, I know the convertible is a 1/3 as rigid as the coupe but honestly, I care more about drop top motoring here in sunny Socal.

Couple of questions though. I know in 2010, the Turbo got some significant updates with a significantly new engine and new turbos. They also got PDK over the tiptronic S. Am I foolish for getting a 2009? The power bump doesn't really concern me but reliability does. I imagine the PDK is probably more reliable and overall much better than the five speed normal automatic? What about the engine update, from what I remember, there were modifications to the crankcase and is pretty much a completely new layout with new cylinder linings.

But from what I recall, the 996 Turbo engines which the 997.1 turbo inherited are supposed to be as bulletproof as far as turbo engines go right?

2009 Turbo did come with an engine reliability update and PDK. It is a lot of car so if you want 500hp for your top down cruiser, this car is for you. Enjoy!

In the US, it seems the 2009 911 Turbo pretty much carried from 2008 with no updates. In 2010 it seems is when the US model gets the updated 3.8 with PDK.

If I remember right it was sort of a mid-year change so if you want PDK, buy PDK. The 997 Tip actually works pretty well but PDK is sublime.
