AX at the Q?

Postby Bill Behun on Tue Jun 09, 2020 9:31 pm

All - Your AX chairs (Jerry Bumpus, myself) and past AX chair Mark Curran have been working on how we might run an AX at the Q under possible different Covid guidelines.
The State, the County, the City and the stadium are all involved in guidelines.
As of now (at least all of June) the stadium won't allow car clubs the use of the stadium for the city needs for handling the virus.
We had a meeting set with the stadium for us car clubs to select dates for the remainder of the year - - but that just got cancelled.
The stadium will get back to us with a meeting date - or whatever might be worked out with San Diego State.
Who knows if San Diego State will accomodate us car clubs for a bit of time.
Stay tuned - and hold your breath if you like!

Bill, huge thanks to you and the other members that have been pursuing this for all of us. We owe you. As long as you make it happen! But seriously, thanks.

The county just approved a bunch of new re-openings including outdoor recreation: https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/ ... ening.html

Thanks Tom - We "might" get an AX to qualify??? but the stadium at this time has not opened up the parking lots to us car clubs. Hopefully they can and have promised to keep us informed.
 Do you know where we can ask the county if a 40-80 group of drivers could participate in an educational driving class? I have worked out how we might be able to all stay at least 6 feet apart. We still wouldn't be able to have students nor 2 people in a car as I understand it.

I think the business link might apply to us: COVID19BusinessQuestions@sdcounty.ca.gov
It may be worth a shot.

I am in contact with SDSU stadium event organizer about driving dates.
They are figuring out how and what to do when taking over the stadium so it will be a bit of time before dates might be set.
Stadium is telling me July is not available, closed to public, as the virus has spiked and city needs stadium lots to run the virus testing programs.
Then SDSU takes over in August. We might???? be able to drive starting in September  depending on many things, mainly the virus situation I'd think.

For sure, that sounds like the West lot is gone as soon as they take over. Nothing seems clear about the Northeast and Southeast lots, though. They're going to still need some parking to keep using the old stadium during construction of the new one, no? But they'll also need parking for construction workers and material staging areas during the project, too. We may be totally cooked.

Yep, but on a positive note, they did mention the need to keep some revenue streams to help offset costs of maintaining the stadium, such as concerts and used car sales. So maybe we can still get a few dates in the SE lot over the next two years. But the end is definitely in sight...

Drove by the Q the other day... the west lot is green now. Weeds have started to cover the asphalt. Bring a mower!

Sounds like the stadium is succumbing to the Holtville syndrome!

Grass skid pads, w00t!
Three laps in they'll be a blast when they're crushed and slippery.
I got the honor of being first in class for CC07 at the last event in the west lot. Stuck the decal on my helmet. :)

I think it was just a formality, but the other day the mayor formally approved the deal with SDSU for the stadium
