It's with great sadness that I report that my dad, Tom, passed away yesterday morning. He was almost 94. He started life in Auburn, Maine, impoverished during the Great Depression of the 1930's, then was "orphaned" at age 5, actually given up to an orphanage because his mother couldn't support him and two of his sisters who were still living at home. The Healy Asylum orphanage, which was run by the Gray Nuns of Quebec, is still there in Lewiston, Maine. French was now his first language. After getting out of the orphanage at age 13, he finished high school and joined the Navy. He rose from the lowest enlisted rank, became an officer, and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1979. We're very proud of him. He loved spending time with his Porsche Club friends and made many, many great memories, which we relived on many a night around the fire pit in my backyard. He wanted no funeral service. I'd like to host a gathering of friends at my home in the near future.
