Marcus,
excellent objective data. The several perspectives you illustrated were well thought out and insightful. Also, thanks for your repeated assistance with course set-up. I am grateful for your effort and helping to make our club better. As a Board Member I recognize this and encourage you to continue working with the AX team.
Dan

To clarify I am in no way making a judgement regarding the final standings for the Event.

Well, here's a different take on the track. The layout was VERY challenging. I like that. There were places where I could carry more speed out of a turn, but there wasn't enough trackout space to use it! Had to dial it back for max efficiency. The slalom section was the cause of much shared analytical thinking. For my car (944 Spec class), entering with the first cone on the passenger side was more efficient. The cones weren't in a straight line- the middle was slightly staggered - in favor of the choice I made. Felt much faster into the slalom, thru the slalom, and same speed, albeit different line, out of the slalom.
This track really made me think and I appreciate that. Had some great pressure, some kidding around, AND some help from the drivers in the class. Good PCA stuff.
Too bad the parking lot is falling apart and causing event management problems. Running an AX is enough work as it is.
Thank you to our volunteers for a really fun day. :D

I wasn't there, so I think I can be an objective commenter...

Once timed runs start, we cannot change the course without invalidating the results. Any intentional change to the course, no matter how well intentioned, means that the before change and after change times cannot be directly compared and the results must be thrown out.
Yes, there will be unintentional changes - oil/coolant spills and cleanup, asphalt breaking up, etc., but those are just the hazards of driving in competition. The track outline doesn't change.

Usually the asphalt break-up starts well before timed runs. I would suggest a quick pass around the track right before timed runs to look for any trouble spots and move the track then. Corner workers should also be calling in places where they see chunks getting loose. If there are any danger spots, don't take a chance - move the track then, not later.

If there is nothing obvious and the breakup doesn't start until after timed runs have begun, just try to keep the chunks off the track and warn the drivers. It is then their choice to take a line through the breakup or try to avoid it (or to withdraw to avoid possible damage from debris).

100% with Kim, this is how it has always been. I'm surprised how casual this issue has been taken.

The question is why the Board of Directors is silent and has not made a decision yet. Does the event count or not? :surr:

I sure hope it won't be swept under the rug. :nono: As a consistent Autocrosser, I want the rules to be followed.
