Racing in Tecate 8/28 and 8/29

Yes, it is that time again. Street circuit racing in Mexico, Tecate at the end of August. The temps will be in the low 90s I figure and if Tim can get his courage up and bring some of those 944 spec cars, the racing will be even better than in Tijuana! Remember it is the home of Tecate beer!

So where or how do we learn more about this race? What's the route? What are the classes of cars? What are the licensing requirements? What are the car requirements? What's the format? When does it start? When does it end?

Need more info!

Thanks John for the website. I was told part of the course goes by the Tecate brewery but I am not sure. I plan to go over this week to look at the roads. If the car is okay for either PCA road racing, POC road racing, SCCA/NASA or any of the vintage organizations it will be legal for Mexico. They mix cars together, for example in mine and John's class "A" they also have small block Camaros, a Corvette and Hondas. In Open there is a NASCAR truck, all-wheel turbo Mitsu, supercharged VWs and such. Class "B"/"B1" are 2 liter cars such as GTIs, Golfs, 914s, etc. Class "C"/"C1" are the small engine cars such as old Mazada RX-7s and beginers so that is where most of the excitement occurs.

I'd like to go John, but our daughter is due on the 24th.
I love racing in Mexico.
Mike, keep in mind that it's for keeps down there. There are curbs and walls, not cones. There are also, occasionally, dogs getting onto the track. Be ready for ANYTHING! Recheck all your safety gear, hang out with other people from San Diego, and have great food, drink, and racing! :D

Well I guess that is a pretty good reason for not going. I hope the baby comes okay and you guys will do fine? I went over yesterday and looked at the course and it is sure different than the one in Tijuana. At least the concrete is not brand new althought there is some new blacktop on one of the streets. The pits should be a little more convienent than TJ also.

The course is about a mile and a half inside Tecate. Go across the border, down the hill on "Cardenas", turn right on "Av Juarez", go several lights and turn left on "C.Eufrasio Santana". Go across the river bed and you'll see the Tecate Brewery and the course. They do have speed bumps like those we used to call "dinosaur bones" so be careful.
