Where to buy?

I am looking for a 70's - 80's 911. I have been keeping up on the Autotrader and classifieds, but is there anywhere in San Diego to actually go and look/feel/drive a few different cars?

The only place I have found is Wolf Motorsporgts in Oceanside. I had an appointment with him Saturday, but after driving up there from Santee he decided to NOT BE OPEN. This after I called him Friday to confirm. Oh well, I guess he didn't want my money.

So is there anywhere else or do I need to just keep an eye on the local papers?

Come down to the stadium on Oct 15 for the autocross. You certainly will be able to look/feel all the cars and more importantly talk to people who really know the pro's and con's of the various models. There is a world of difference between say a 1970's 911T and an 89 C4. You should be able to narrow things down a lot on the 15th.

Then go visit interesting ads in the paper and drive the cars. I have never found a real reliable or trustworthy place that sells 20-30+ year old cars unless you plan on spending $$$$$$$$$.

Jad has a good point. I think I have even seen some cars there for sale. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Many people there would love to share their knowledge and experience with you! Good luck on your pursuit for your Porsche

The lots that sell Porsches of those vintages in my experience are generally suspect. Generally flashy stuff with suspect mechanicals. I agree with Jad, do some research and narrow the years/models you want to consider.

Look at the classifieds of enthusiasts sites like SDPCA, Orange County, LA, Riverside etc. or BBS of Pelican Parts and Rennlist. While the BBS listings are not local, it will give you a grounding on pricing pretty quickly.

Thanks all! I have been keeping an eye on Pelican and Rennlist, as well as Craigslist and cctol.com. I agree that any dealer would be suspect, but I wanted to go take a look and drive a few. Oh well...

Based on my price range (~15K) I figure I am looking at a 78-86. Maybe I could squeeze out a bit more for a G50 if the right deal came along.
