Need a GS/GP ride Oct 15 autocross!

Well, the old 924 Turbo's engine management is still acting up, and now I'm back down to an effective 3K rpm limiter before the whole thing craps out. Not enough time to get working on my own car, but I did manage to pick up a new set of 225/50-15 Kumho V710's and mount them on the race wheels that'll fit on a 944.

My offer is this-- If someone will allow the use of the car, I may allow the use of the new race tires for all practice and timed runs. These tires are extremely sticky, and at minimum I would let them be run for Timed runs only for both of us. But they were horrendously expensive, so it seems like a "waste" to burn them up during practice runs for two drivers.

Here's the catch-- I'd prefer a GS car (I would run it in GP), so that neither of us would affect each other's possible standings and points for the event...I don't wish to cause any problems with "Who beat Who driving Whose car" kind of thing, especially if it messes with someone's Year End points. I have points in GP but due to lack of events will not affect the outcome at the end of the season, but like a good competitive run nonetheless.

Any takers? Let me know....email, pm, post, or call me at Dave Turner Motorsports during business hours 858-268-2244.

Thanks,

Thanks Timmy,

I reinstalled the OLD Jacobs OmniPak spark amplifier and changed with plug wires out (from solid core) and the car runs like a bat out of hell, but has a huge fuel cutout at 5100-5200rpm.....

Look out Dan, I'm coming to get you.....in 5th gear, 'cause my car won't rev! hehe

Hey James, was the car doing this before the Omni pack was installed, or right after you installed it?

A similar situation happened to a friend of mine, however it was with a naturally aspirated 944 and an MSD box. Just a thought...

THe 924 Turbo and the 944 have completely different ignition and engine managament systems. I never had the Jacobs system installed when I've owned the car, it just came with it disconnected...I've never been a fan of Jacobs because they tend to be unreliable, but in this particular case it seemed to help.

The 944 uses the DME system and electronic fuel injection and O2 sensor all tied into one system.

The 924 Turbo (81-82 only) is controlled by a Lambda box (O2, at idle only), Bosch computer, separate DITC (digital ignition/timing control, only ever used on the 81-82 924 Turbo and 924 Carrera GT/GTS/GTR), and CIS K-Jet mechanical fuel injection. All are extremely sensitive to gounding problems and age, I'm just trying to make it all work again :-) When its not working, its terrible, but when its working-- man, the car is just great to drive.

We'll see how long this lasts, sometimes sudden "miracles" with this car tend to be short-lived.

Yea my uncle had a 924. Had trouble with the battery grounds all the time with it. Still loved the car though! Hope she comes back together real nice for you man. :D

 Doh!

James, I'd entertain sharing your tires to my car in GP. The only catch; don't grind the gears with the LSD box (easy to do during braking). Now, we're talking a true GP 944 challange: same car, same tires, same track, same run-group.

Hey, sounds good, Curt. You lend me your car, I'll loan my car to James, and I'll finally make Top Ten Time of Day group (in my dreams)!

Hehe, that would be fun! The car has held up over a few trips, so we'll see if it will stay in tune until next weekend....I think I stripped out one of the bolts that holds the front castor blocks to the chassis, so I need to tear into that as well. Oh, and maybe an alignment....that 1.5" toe-in on the drivers side can't be helping me :-)
