There are pluses to the 944? Oh yeah. It has a dry sump, doesn't it?

Just kidding. :D

You're description of the good attributes of a 996 sound ALMOST identical to a Camry, except the fun part...... :D

Honestly, who is buying the 996's? I don't think it is Porsche enthusiasts (besides a few of us here). Why in the HE11 is the best selling model the 996 C4 Cabriolet

I don't want to get into the argument as both the 993 and 996 have their virtues, different cars for different people.

However, the 993 and the 996 have essentially the identical suspension system, a multilink rear and Mac Pherson strut front.

911's have always had a Mac Pherson strut front, the multilink rear replaced the semi-trailing arms used until the 993.

My point exactly

The pluses you describe Jad can be had for a lot less money than a 996. With the only difference being a Porsche. ... If the new Yugo did everything better then the 993 I wouldn't buy it either. You build a racecar from an early 911 instead of a 993 because its good money management...I throw a 5-$8k 3.2 in it and goodbye stock 993, but thats another discussion. Your taste is already suspect, you drive a 944!!! Sorry that just slipped out.. :D
Honestly Jad you drive whatever you want, but IMHO I would never own a 996.... at any price. I thought the design would grow on me but it still hasn't, there is NO comparison regarding the looks/lines of a 993 as compared to a 996. I'm not buying a car that's unpleasant to look at, IMO, no matter how much lighter or how much HP it has.

I can't argue with a car's build parameters reflecting its intended purpose. With respect to the dry sump issue, it's sure a nice-to-have once the car hits the track.

I wish my 944 had a dry sump. One of a 944/928 racer's biggest bane is the crank oil issue. Throw sticky tires on a wet sump car and go into a long, high g-force corner and your oil hangs out on the wrong side of the sump. There really are no good solutions to the problem either. My car came with an accusump and an air-oil separator to try an ensure the rod bearings saw oil. This, along with cross-drilled cranks and over-filling the oil, is of dubious benefit or may exacerbate the problems. The faster you go and the more you drive, the bigger the problem.

Well, this would probably be better in trash talk, but . . ..

Atleast I think we can agree the 996 is faster than the 993, especially out of the box . . . . way faster!!!!

See ya on Saturday!!!! :D

Oh, and don't make me get slicks

Go ahead and get slicks and run them real hard on your non dry sumped 996.

I'll bring the hot dogs and marshmellows. :D

Can't resist.......

Whatever pill bug boy... (trash talk here) The last event you ran a respectable 93.xx, even with slicks you will see maybe 3 seconds, still not enough to beat an old tired 1973 911 which is way slower than a 996.... Man, that was just wrong... :D

If you could put windows on a pill bug and a non dry sumped engine in its rear, what would it look like?

:D :D :D

"If you could put windows on a pill bug and a non dry sumped engine in its rear, what would it look like?"

A teletubby? Or is that what your pumkin car turns into after midnight?

You talkers going on Saturday?

I'll put my poor slow, wet sump 996 with original shocks, springs and tires against any dry sump 911 from the 70's, 80's or 90's (assuming it is as original as my car :D :D )

Otherwise, I am bringing the new improved 944, though I will be running street tires at AX's and the full 275 Kumhos only at big tracks.

Hope to see you airheads Saturday, just don't cry too much when I beat you :P Ok Ok, maybe I should wait for the big tracks for that kind of talk, you are the parking lot queens. No top time of day, so no king title...maybe this weekend, I hear the competition will be light :?
