914 height limit

Postby gulfporsche20 on Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:36 am

I'm attempting to get a friend involved in Autocross events.

He is 6' 3" tall and wants to know if he would fit in a 914 with the top removed.

Any advice is appreciated.

I think 6'3" with stock seats with the stock back pad may be pushing the limit.

A local fellow ('siverson' on 914club.com) has a beautiful 3.6 914-6 with semi-stock interior (no headrests on the seats). He's more than 6'3", I think. He fits, but doesn't appear to pass the broomstick test.

It depends on what seat configuration you want, I suppose.

Ditching the back pad and getting a low race seat (like UltraShield Rally?) may give enough rear- and downward room.

As I recall, you can remove the bottom cushion from the seat and gain 2-3" of clearance which should be plenty for an autocross. You may want a think towel for padding.

It should be doable, have him come down and try, but he needs to be a PCA member to participate.

I didn't think there was a height requirement for AX. If this is new I'm sure there are going to be a LOT of Boxster and Cab. owners surprised come Sat. AM.

Jad, you are correct about the bottom seat pad.

I forgot about this option because it doesn't work for me. My very broad behind doesn't fit into the seatpad well.

There is no broomstick rule for AX events. It only applies to DE, TT, and other competitive events. There are few, if any, Boxster drivers that would pass the broomstick rule without at least a roll bar extender and you won't see many of those at any AX events.

Tell your friend not to worry, and to come out and have fun. :burnout:

You are correct, Mike. The only limitations to participating in an AX are: current membership, and a Porsche that is in good running order that will pass tech Inspection.

So, Y'all come down there, ya hear?

Dan, I wouldn't have it any other way.
At least that way you actually have a level playing field...

I think you owe me a few after the last BW antics...

Or was that what you were trying for on that pass down to start mazda... I thought you were just looking for some red pinstriping...
