R&T tech session?

Postby Jad on Tue Nov 15, 2005 10:07 am

OK, who is the wise guy that thinks my 944 weighs less than a spec Miata racer:?: Greg? Bob?

I was looking up directions to the tech session in the new Witness and saw that  The last time there, I came off the scales at ~3400 lbs, not quite a 928, but I don't think even a fiberglass engine would get me into spec Miata territory. I plan on driving it up to find out though. Will any of my RSA competitors be joining me?

By the way, what is the address of R&T? The ad just gives directions, but the GPS likes an actual street address.

C'mon Jad...How does a sub 2800lb 944 ( I owned a 1983/4) go to 3400lbs for a turbo?? What did they use?, Lead soundproofing?...

Hey Jad & Dan,

Just razzin' you, Jad, about your acid-dipped 944 with helium in the tires. :D

Was out at Buttonwillow on Sunday, and saw Mr. Comeau put on a very fine drive. Zebra power!!

Come on down! See y'all on Saturday.

R&T's street address is 1499 Monrovia Ave., Newport Beach, CA 92663.

So your the trouble maker stirring things up :nono: . Haven't seen you in awhile, they must be keeping you busy driving Ferraris and McLarens, so no time for the lowly Porsche

Care to place your bet on what my acid dipped, 2800 lbs starting weight, mini spec Miata will be on the scales? Closest guess gets to be passed by me at the next TT :P

Are you and the 747 wing going to be at R&T? That wing is so big you probably have more downforce at rest than my solid lead 944

Since a couple of people have asked me, I will confirm what I know about Saturday.

There is a PCA-SDR tech session at Road and Track in Newport on Saturday at 10 AM. There is an announcement in the Witness that you got/should get this week, but it is not on the website or in last months Witness. It was a lot of fun last time and they have scales to weigh your car (or not if you are Martin or Bob and try to claim their cars are legal weight-wise  )

It is about an hour drive and we get to test all the Ferraris, Porsches and BMW's that R&T has in their test fleet... :? Well, not really, but it was still fun to see behind the scenes at a car magazine.

Hey, Doug!
It was nice to see you up there and thanks for the kind words.
Black Forest gave the Zebra a corner balance and alignment just before that event and all I had to do was one sway bar adjustment after arriving. The car was hooked up! Flat out through Riverside to a 2:13.352 on config #1 CCW. Mucho fun!
BTW, my car tipped the scales post-race at 2610 with driver and some fuel. With no driver and 1/4 tank, it's right around 2463.
So you can compare that to Jad's weight claim to see how much he's cheating by! :P :P

Hey Tim, just checking, how is the stereo in the spec car? How about the ABS, airbags, heater, power mirrors, 17x10 rims with 275's, 928 brakes, power steering, windshield wipers, horn, lights, cat, passenger seat and harness, not to mention the turbo, exhaust system, intercooler and other associated parts. I am sure all of that weighs what, 10-15 lbs?

I doubt I will come in under 3000lbs with driver, and I don't weigh that much  At least I have 350 rear wheel HP

Someone stole all of that stuff out of my car just before the event. I knew I shouldn't have parked it on the street......

Great tech session, thanks Doug and R&T!

For those interested, my 'spec Miata' weight 944 turbo weighed ~3100 lbs  when I put it on the scale 'as driven'. But Bob and others complained so much, I stripped it, windows out, roof off, carpet and EVERYTHING out and it came down to almost 2000 lbs  like expected, plus or minus 1000 lbs.

So at 3000lbs with driver (thats how it was weighed which also helps test the corner balance) my car was about 2840 without driver. So that means I can take another 80-90 lbs out without taking any more points  THANKS DOUG :!:

PS Not quite a 944 spec yet, but if you will let me run with you Tim, I would be willing to accept my big weight penalty :D
