An Incredible Porsche Story.....

Postby jrgordonsenior on Mon Nov 21, 2005 6:59 am

I thought you might find this intersting....I received this e-mail from an old high school friend last Thursday (ah that would be late 60's children....). I'll let him tell the story......

"John - You won't believe this . . .

My first Porsche ride was in high school when my great aunt from Mill Valley showed up to stay for a few days. She had just returned from Europe where she picked up a new 63 356 white coupe with tan interior. I thought it was about the coolest car I'd ever been in. She had the car for 30 years. When she died, her nephew keep the car, then I lost track of the car.

I was browsing ebay yesterday and found the car for sale in Sacramento by the second owner. It still has all the original documentation, plus the original invoice with my aunt's name on it. It has the original European license plates that she used during her travels over there, plus the original black and yellow Calif plates. The rest of the car is in incredible condition, all still original. Even the complete tool kit is still intact. There is even a photo of the car as it came off the assembly line.

Long story short . . . I'm flying up to Sacramento tomorrow afternoon with a cashiers check to pick up the car and drive it back home. Can you believe it! The very car I sat in over 40 years ago that got me fascinated with Porsches is now going to return to my garage.

Wow, JR, that is a great story and a fantastic find! I, too, can remember riding in my father's 356 when I was 12 years old, in 1960. He had several of the early cars back then, as he was an engineer and appreciated the German design and craftsmanship, and I am fortunate to still have the '67 911S that was the first new car he ever bought in my garage, but I would love to find the Ivory '65 356SC sunroof coupe he traded in on it! That was the first Porsche I ever drove myself.

Cool stories. 8)

I remember my dad's first Porsche  sorry, this story always brings a tear to my eye....He had been dreaming about one since I was 16 and he got to ride in my grey '78 924. Then finally, several years later, he finally found a 2000 996 :? and believe it or not, he still owns the car and on very special occasions actually drives it, but only about 500 miles a year. His love of the marque has continued ever since with him competing in AX, instructing at AX's and even doing TT (though only in my car). If anyone comes across that 924, PLEASE don't call me. The guy I sold it to did such bad things to the car, such as gluing Star Wars characters to the dash and running into poles at gas stations, that the Porsche gods finally rescued the car by having it stolen and probably stripped in Mexico

I hope this amazing and heart warming story didn't take away too much from your 356 story

I knew of a similar story from a local guy named Joe Deneen. He was the first and third or fourth owner of a red 356. I have pictures somewhere.....
Cool to get an old friend back.
