PCA SDR

I have a friend who at this time is not a PCA member. Can he join at the AX and participate that day.

Yes, he can be your guest driving your car.

He just joined PCA yesterday and will most likely be out with his car next week.

That was how I started, I came with another Porsche club member and drove his car as a guest.

I guess I will have to leave the club and they will revoke my membership

The rules now are that in order to drive in an AX, you MUST be a PCA member or affiiate member. Drivers are requested to show their membership cards when their cars are tech'd on the morning of the event.

Wow, that is pretty strict and does not easily allow perspective members to see how our club works.

Maybe we can take another look at this rule so we are not needlessly excluding new member possibilities.

Also, maybe we can do this membership loosening if we can allow non-porsche cars in PCA SDR events like this past weekend at the driving school?

How about if non-members just pay $45 MORE than members do to take part in their first AX and we "throw in" FREE PCA membership ;^)

Kary is hereby retroactively disqualified from all previous events and all merchandise purchased from his company must be removed and returned for a full refund regardless of condition.

Hmmm, I wonder if Chris is throwing in a free Porsche to ge the VIN for the free PCA membership he is offering with registration...

We have been enforcing this for quite a while and there really haven't been any complaints. Membership in PCA is only $42, you can join instantly on-line (https://www.pca.org/members/membership_form_s_real.html), and a prospective member can bring a printout of their online receipt if they haven't gotten their card yet (or even claim in writing that they joined and are waiting for their card - just don't try that twice!).

We haven't been crowded yet this year, but we don't want to turn away a PCA member in favor of a non-member, and we don't want to reduce the track time of members in favor of non-members. This became a big discussion item over a year ago, along with allowing non-Porsches at events. With events of only 80-90 cars, it isn't an issue, but when we are struggling to get 12 laps in with 110-130 cars, we really should keep it to PCA members.

In my opinion if someone wants to participate in our events then he/she should be or become a member. Others clubs like SCCA Solo2 (for non-Porsche) and POC also requires a membership card and they costs more than our PCA club membership.

I have a hard time understanding how a PCA member who is a regular attendee at our autox events increases the crowd or reduces track time for the other participants by showing up and driving a non-Porsche. What am I missing? Aren't these two different issues-- non-members and non-Porsches? How did they get lumped together?

This is not entirely true, Martin. You do not have to be an SCCA member to participate in San Diego's SCCA autox events, but you do have to buy a "SD Solo2" card, which is $10 annually.

I do agree with the necessity for PCA membership to run in our events, especially if our insurance requires it, but I don't understand the negativity or discrimination towards other marques.

This is absolutely NOT true. I have only been a member for a little over 3 years, but in that time this subject keeps coming up every 3-6 months. Someone asks a similar question ronaltrotter's and it sparks a nice long debate on the subject.

This directly contradicts what you said just 3 sentences prior. So I am really not sure what to make of the comments. But there clearly are complaints about this policy. Maybe they are just not held in high regard by you due to their source. But the complaints are surely there.
