Calling PCA-SDR driving Instructors and Potential Instructrs

Calling all PCA-SDR driving Instructors and Potential SDR Driving Instructors.

The fall 2004 Performance Driving School is fast approaching (October 22/23/24) and once again we call on you to donate some of your time from your busy schedule and help us put on the best Performance Driving School of its type in PCA.

As always, the success of the school is largely based on the voluntary work of our Regions driving instructors, and, in an effort to show we recognize that, we are planning to do THREE things as a thank you to our instructors.

FIRST we are going to have an instructor feedback evening at Giovannis Pizza in Kearny Mesa at 7 - 9PM on WED Sep 15th to discuss ideas for revising/improving the way we run both the Performance Driving School and Autocrosses in general as far as lightening the burden on our driving instructors. Your constructive moments/critique is invited PLUS …..

If you are interested in becoming an instructor please contact Denise or me and be sure come along to the Pizza evening.

For requirements to become an instructor please see Note “A” at the end of this e-mail.

Benefit to instructors - free beer and Pizza (please don’t drink and drive - show up in a bus/sleep in your car or whatever) and a chance to improve the instructor workload.

SECOND we are going to have an instructor driving/training day at the Stadium WEST LOT on Saturday September 18th - two weekends away.

The format will be at least two cycles of four 20 minute run groups, corner working for two run groups, then driving one run group and riding with other instructors for the fourth. Then we start the four run groups over - you should only have to cornerwork once all day but we will see what attendance we get.

You will drive your own car. When not driving or corner working, you will be at start/finish with your helmet and riding for a few laps with one instructor and then hopping out to let someone else in so you can ride with another instructor. Call it an instructor “mixer” if you wish - the idea is to experience different driving AND instructing techniques.

Benefit to instructors - free autocross on the West Lot, a chance to run with your rivals in their car and to show them how you drive/instruct in your car.

THIRD we are having a school on the weekend of October 22/23/24.

Please mark your calendars and volunteer early. We suggested to the board that the budget include an autocross discount coupon for instructors who work both days and it was approved. We are considering a smaller autocross discount coupon for people who volunteer to only work one day, but that hasn’t been finalized yet.

We are also going to allow Instructors to run on the Sunday of the school for the purposes of instructing students in the school - there will be no timing and no 10/10ths driving.

WE NEED INSTRUCTORS - PLEASE HELP OUT.

Please contact us at cdi@pcasdr.org <mailto:cdi@pcasdr.org>

Let’s make the fall 2004 school the best one yet!

NOTE "A"

There are FOUR requirements to becoming a Driving Instructor with PCA-SDR and they are as follows:
1) Current PCA membership
2) to have attended at least 4 autocrosses in the last year (this is intended a] to ensure we know your driving ability and b] to show you reliably turn up for events).
3) to take a written test ensuring you understand the requirements of a PCA-SDR Instructor - this is multi choice and if you have driven with SDR should be just a formality (e.g. complete the following "In a spin _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ and _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _").
and 4) to do a ride-along with each of the two CDI's where the CDI will role play being a student and checking your ability to instruct, to convey the basic requirements for a student and to ensure that above all, they are safe.

Many thanks for your cooperation. KV & DD.

Yippie! This is one of the best events of the year! And barring any more huricanes, floods, etc., I will have my new wheels just in time!
