Man, I thought the same thing. After watching the second slalom set..........only Tom Tweed and I were taking it with the first cone on your left! That made the first "turn" of that set of slalom cones uphill, which means more grip. Most drivers were taking it the other way, which created an off camber turn. DOH!
Thoughts?

Tim, I was up on corner 7 with my student and saw Tom Tweed take the slalom 'the other way'. I pointed out to my student why he might have done that--on-camber vs. off-camber. But when I tried it, it didn't matter. See my old car has only four speeds (and wood wheels). I had to down-shift at that cone, no matter which way I took it. Now if I had a 5-speed, I think it might've been different.

I don't think there was a LOT of difference in which side you took the second slalom, but for me, the advantage of uphill braking and on-camber turning around the second cone seemed faster. There was no issue with making the following gate after the last cone in my car, so it didn't seem to make a difference as far as the preferred line for the next turn.

I took both slaloms in third most of the time and didn't downshift until the next sharp left after each of them, but I do have a 5-speed in my '67S. :D
