PCA SDR

I went to order my Victoracers for Pahrump, to find out they are back order into October at Tirerack. The option appears to be the Ecsta700 which have not impressed me in the smaller sizes and generally get poor reviews.

Anyone have a good source for Victoracers? Other tires? I have heard some people like the Toyos. Where do you buy those?

I am trying to avoid Hoosiers as I am afraid they may not make the weekend on my car and I am not ready to bring multiple sets of tires, I am not that sick yet :roll:

Toyo RA-1's are good. I've used Bryan Shackelford at Champman BMW in AZ (480.949.7600) and Frank at the Tire Shop in El Cajon (619.442.0341). If you want them shaved you will need to go to Bryan as Frank does not have the capability.

I'm trying out the Yoko A032R this weekend at PIR. I know Otto has been using these for a while and seems to really like them a lot.

The Toyos are really good. I ran them last weekend (unshaved) and my times show that they can be very fast. I think they would be GREAT shaved. Thus far, I have two PCA and two SCCA autocrosses on them and they finally look broken in. At this rate, I'm guessing I will get 70-100 laps out of them. We'll see how they do with heat cycling. I don't think I was any faster on Victoracers.

After having trouble finding the Toyos as well, I ended up calling an internet racing company, Frisbyracetire.com that were very helpful, had the Toyo RA1 tires and were the lowest price by far. Express was $206, Frisby was only $170.

We shall see how they perform at Pahrump.

I just purchased a set of Toyo RA-1's (225/50/15) from Chapman BMW to use at Spring Mountain. I was very surprised at the prices he was giving me ( $127 + $8 for shaving + $5 shipping ). He's trying to establish himself with the racers and I've been impressed so far. Carl

Good price, Frisby was $130 for that size, so both seem pretty reasonable sources so far.

Why not get the Ecsta 710? It wears great and grips like an SOB.

Are they available in all sizes now, James? How did they do at the Solo2 Nationals? I heard there was some rain in Topeka, as usual.

I didn't run them, since I was running a Honda Civic in a "street tire" class (140 & higher treadware). This was my first time in a FWD.

However, I have run them before and every class which had a size available for it was won by the 710's. Basically, they dominated. There was only 2 heats really effected by the rain on Tuesday morning heats 1&2. # was drying and mainly dry by the last runs.

They are not available in every size yet, but I believe there are 275s available now.

Basically, hadn't heard anything good about the 710's, just thought they were recalled and not available yet. After not liking the Ecsta 700's, I thought I would try the Toyo's that several people have liked.

But don't the 710's have a tread-wear rating of 30? This puts them in the same category as the Hoosier's, costing us 4 points. Are they really that much faster than the 700's and/or the Victoracers? Perhaps someone could suggest to Kumho that they just change the rating to 100 like the Toyo's :wink:

for me, when I put the 275's on, I get kicked into KP but still have 12 points to spare, so the tread rating doesn't matter much, (full slicks

) I just don't want to spend $2k per weekend on tires :cry:

. This also explains why I autocross with the Azenis and stay in KS! I am only willing to pay so much to go slightly faster, but on big tracks I can kinda play with the fast guys, so I am spending more in order to keep Dan scared. Maybe this time I will pass him before he spins and not get so many closeups of his front oil cooler through my windshield!

The tire is faster than anything else DOT legal, including the Hoosiers...

I would hazard to say ~1 second on a 60 second course. Also, they last well. Most people are getting over 100 competitive runs out of them.

JGW: where does one find these? Tirerack only has a handful of sizes.
