Jim,

Thanks for your efforts. I suspect that owners of the mid- to late-70's vintage cars just aren't as passionate and organized as owners of some of the earlier cars. Too bad; I was looking forward to the day when my '84 was going to become exempt. Carl

ps Saw your picture in the UT -- that's a good look

It strikes me as bizarre that our government would even consider "worrying " about older cars, which there are fewer and fewer of, while turning a blind eye to those huge, polluting SUV's, and their relaxed emission standards............ :?

Not to mention the number of miles these cars are actually driven. Complete farse. A red-herring that allows politicos to look like they are tough on the environment.

I disagree... While I am usually first in line to bash SUV's in general, the typical precatalyst 'early car' puts out more polutants than a 100 SUV's. They may waste gas and kill people, but they don't pollute THAT much. My BMW is rated as an ULEV, thus providing almost no harmful emissions. The 'stuff' coming out of the tailpipes while you race around at full throttle in your old car is fairly significant. Remember the 60's and 70's when people killed themselves by running the car in the garage? Now you just get a headache and eventually run out of gas.

I can't believe two-stroke motors are still legal and the things pilots and planes do are ridiculously bad for the environment.

There are a lot better and more efficient ways of cleaning the air than the new politically correct batch of hybrids, but every bit helps-maybe even requiring the heavy polutors from the 70's to pass a basic smog check :?:

I don't think this will solve many problems, but I also believe politians have done dumber things - though that isn't saying much.
