Amato Tech Session news: Illegal Steering??????

Postby MR LIPP on Fri Oct 22, 2010 11:35 am

This was really interesting as I just recently asked forum members about insurance companies.
It turns out that my State Farm is something you want to "steer clear" of (pun intended :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: )

BTW: you guys missed a great Tech Session just because of a little rain :banghead:

California Insurance Code Section 758.5

(a) No insurer shall require that an automobile be repaired at a specific automotive repair dealer, as defined in Section 9880.1 of the Business and Professions Code.

ILLEGAL STEERING

There are many methods insurers use to carry out illegal steering:

- The insurance company states to the consumer repairs may be delayed by not using the insurer's DRP (Direct Repair Program). Amato’s takes pride on delivering a quality repair in a timely manner on every car.

- The insurance company may also state they will not be responsible for additional rental car expenses. If rental car coverage expires, Amato’s will provide the customer with a loaner car.

- The insurance company may state to the consumer: the insurer will not guarantee repairs unless the work is performed at the insurer’s preferred shop or DRP. Amato's provides a lifetime warranty on all repairs.

- The insurance company may suggest to the consumer that the repairs will cost more if taken to the consumer’s chosen shop. Out of pocket expenses will not be incurred unless you request original manufacturers parts (OEM) and the insurance company will only pay for aftermarket parts.

- Insurers may also tell consumer they will be responsible for any difference in labor rates or parts. There will never be a difference unless OEM parts are requested as stated above.
