RAIN OR SHINE

Postby Gary Burch on Thu Feb 10, 2005 8:20 pm

A note for you folks that think a little early morning rain will derail our autocross. It is not going to happen. We will have the track set and be ready to run by 8:30. If the first few laps are damp it's just that much more fun. So bring your rain gear but put shorts on underneath and get ready for the Drivers Dinner that follows.

Oh, I'm showing up, for sure. But the forecasts are not as optimistic as you, Gary. They're showing the rain lasting through the morning and not starting to dry out until after noon.

I am seeing the same gloomy outlook, 80% precipitation (Showers)until about 2-3PM. If that is the case will we still run?

I think the Subject line of Gary's post says it all - "RAIN OR SHINE".

Weather Underground is saying 40% chance of "measurable precipitation" in the morning. That means a 60% chance of no rain.

If there isn't any standing water, we can still run practice laps in the morning. If it doesn't dry out in time for the timed runs we can still get in 8-12 practice runs on damp/wet pavement.

We can also hope for the "Q phenomenon" - we have had days where it was pouring throughout the rest of the county, yet the area right over the Q stayed dry.

Burn some incense, bow to the East  , host a sacrifice (whoops - maybe too far on that last one), and hope for a dry Saturday.

What does Burl East have to do with the weather and how can bowing to him help anything but his ego :)

Last report I heard, rain in the morning, clearing, then returning in the afternoon. Not good plus I have to get to the staduim on old Toyos. Yikes.

Yeah, I'm not even going to attempt to drive there from Huntington Beach on half used up Kumho Victoracers. My car is all packed to go too.

Well, off go the Victoracers, on go the street tires unless Burl (he is a God don'tya know) can fix the weather.

Huhmmm, maybe I can borrow a trailer and bring both sets to beat my cohorts in JP. Then I have to park downtown with a trailer for the dinner. Heck with it - see ya there with my treadware 500+ street tires.

Sometimes we just have to take a chance. At the worst only the timed runs will be in the dry. And with all the bigdogs on street tires one never knows what will happen.

I just checked with Weather underground and it shows 76% probability of showers all day. Sorry boys but if it doesn't change by tonight I'll wait for the next event.

I'm thinking about bowing out for tomorrow, but if I sleep in and the rain holds off, we may still come down for the Goodie Store. Is there someone I can call to see if the event is running? Would you please post a cell phone number? Or you could email it to me at gsamad@san.rr.com.

Thanks! Gary

I made a bad call at 4:30 am when it was pouring rain. It's drying out and I'm 2 hours away....
