AX results link on AX web page?

Postby Kim Crosser on Sun Feb 13, 2005 2:09 pm

At the dinner last night, Charlie asked when the results from the Jan 30th AX would be posted. He was unaware of the separate database maintained by Kary, and was waiting for the results to appear on the AX page.

How about putting a link to the results database on the AX Web page (like where it has "results")?

As in this post and many e-mails that I receive people believe that there is a separate database that I keep for auto-x and time trail events that is different from the region. Well, in reality there is nothing separate. I originally had posted my databases from my Group 9 Motorsports site to show the region what we might be able to do at the time when we just had static HTML pages for each event results. As with many things like this it was adopted, probably because it was there and had some functionality we had not had.

That said, there are not any separate databases any longer, just the one we use for our region. The auto-x and time trial pages are merely updated with links to call those databases appropriately. For those technically inclined, you will see those links point to:

http://web2.pcasdr.org/pca/season_stand ... ?database=

This is already on the auto-x page if you want to see the January 30th auto-x results in the season overall page (we just need to put a link to the specific event in the above individual events table on the HTML page so it appears as though the database has been updated).

For those that would like like addiitonal functionality that is available beyond that of the auto-x and time trial page you can look at this main page:

http://web2.pcasdr.org/pca/pca.php?database=

and for time trail:

http://web2.pcasdr.org/pca/pca.php?database=tt

Again, this is the same database as the links on the auto-x and time trail pages but provides som eother views of the information that people find interesting.

So hopefully this will reduce the mystery about the "databases" and you can always find the latest results regardless of the links on the auto-x and time trail pages at the above last two links.

Questions?

Kary --

You might want to check the data you input to the database.
I just noticed you have William Wu driving a 996 in MSS. Two things wrong with that. 996s were moved to NSS this year, and William was driving a Boxster, so should have been listed in LSS.

Paul - it is up to William to make sure he is properly registered in class and car type.

Kary - Ok - ignore the "separate database" issue. What I am requesting is that someone fix/clean up the main AX web page (http://www.pcasdr.org/autocross/index.html) so that is has some useful pointers to the database of results.

Issues on the page include:
1. "Autocross Results in 2003 Schedule table below!" at the top of the page. (2003 was a while ago, and there are no results [or links to results] in the schedule table.)
2. "2005 Schedule and Results" table doesn't have results or links to the results.
3. "2005 Season Standings" gets you to the Season Standings page of the database, and if you know/figure out to click on the points in the table you can get to the individual event results, but you cannot get to the main database page, so you cannot see summary or BRI results.

How about modifying the AX page to fix the above issues, and have an easy to find link to the main database page (http://web2.pcasdr.org/pca/pca.php?database=)?

p.s. Minor suggestion - a link to the main database page on each of the subordinate database pages would be useful as well.
