911 Racecar Build

Postby David J Marguglio on Mon Feb 21, 2005 5:45 pm

Okay, here is the skinny: M.O.M. and I are trying to...no, strike that...going to have our 993 C2S ready for Fontana. We have 25 days and the car is currently a stripped tub. I am desparately trying to source all of the parts that we need used. Currently, I need the following:

1. 993 C2S or Turbo right front fender
2. Front nose that will fit 993 turbo (glass for OEM)
3. Rear RSR shocks with external reseviors (have fronts)
4. Turbo (big red) brakes

This is your chance to be a hero. Please PM or call me at 858-722-4242. Thanks in advance...

Call Jae @ Mirage about the brakes. He has some that I was going to put on my Box. I'm not sure if they are Turbo's or not, but they may work. I you take them you owe me a finders fee since they were going to be mine ;).

Okay, I have sourced the fender and nose. Anyone have a line on a fuel cell for a 993? Need one that is already made; Fuel Safe and ATL need 5-6 weeks to make. Help?

Ok, am I the only one here that thinks you cannot build a "safe" race car in 25 days ? Seriously, you are missing some rather important parts that are not that easy to get, but hey, I hope you can pull it off in time!

Anyone want to put together a poll with the car will be ready or not?

Dude, (David),
I sincerely hope you make it in time, but the 20+ years of managing projects tells me that you will be testing the car in "production" (for those that work in the IS world). That rarely works very well.

But again, I hope you make it and I hope you do not drop any parts in front of me as I am passing you through NASCAR turn 1 & 2

Okay, now we are getting down to the small details: Does anyone have an shifter knob collecting dust somewhere? Condition is not important as we will strip the boot off anyway, but is does need to fit the 993 (which I think is just about anything before the 993). Kary? Marty? Anyone?

Oh be a man!! You don't need a shift knob to race!

Thanks to all that have helped (or offered) with this process to try to take the car from zero to race in three weeks, but alas it will not happen. Though I still contend that we could have had it done and competitive, it would have required pulling too much of MOM's resources to make it happen. With all of the customer cars that needed last minute work before CFoS, we reached the decision to pull the plug this weekend. Oh well, there will be other races.

It is all about project management in the end, time, resources, and scope. You could not change the scope (and have a car that ran), you could not change the time (fixed date for the event), so you needed to put more resources which has a diminishing return with too many people, and ultimately rarely works.

Sorry to hear that you guys will not make it. Will you make the POC Tribute? Vegas is looking to put up another line on making that event. I am looking to make some more money like I made of of this bet
