Paid Corner Workers (groan - not again) Survey

A place to hang out and discuss all things Porsche.

If paid corner workers meant that AX event fees increased by $10, would you?

Stop attending - $10 is too much!

Paid Corner Workers (groan - not again) Survey

Postby Kim Crosser on Wed Feb 23, 2005 2:27 pm

We are still investigating the use of paid corner workers.

There would likely be a significant cost per event to the Club to use paid corner workers.

I am interested in an informal, non-binding, (add whatever legalese disclaimers you like here) poll as to the impact of passing on the additional costs to the drivers at an event.

Comments are also welcomed (Did I really say that? Oh, well. ).

Kim,
Unfortunately you won't get enough visability here. This question really needs to be asked at the next AX event when we have our normal 100+ drivers/cars. I also think this can be done several times a year and not every event to start with. Every other or 3rd event? something like that.

P.S.
I think you know how I voted.. :D

Yes - we will be polling everyone at the next event (assuming it too is not rained out  ).

In the meantime, polling the forum may give some useful information.

Count me in on paid corner workers.

I would be willing to pay a lot more to have them, say twice as much= $80.

If I could figure out how to vote, I would be with the "gladly" majority.

Kim;

Where's the box where I check:

"Happily keep the system the way it is. I like cornerworking, where I can get a close-up view of the greatest cars ever made; driving the way they should be driven, and save some money by actually working a little ... and consider it a valuable tool in my bag of educational materials for my students."?

No offense to you, or the ideas you're coming up with. I like the hard work and dedication to this topic. I'd just like to see more options. I personally think (opinion here) your survey is worded with a paradigm that excludes several options that others might want to vote on. Choking the paradigm results in biased results IMHO.

As an example of what my Dad has gone through:

Q: "Would you like milk with your dinner?"
A: "No thanks. I'm lactose intolerant."
Q: Okay, would you like skim-milk with your dinner."
A: "No, I'm lactose intolerant. It makes me sick."
Q: "How about a milk-shake? We have chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. They're delicious!"
A: "No. I can't drink milk, or any dairy products for that matter."
Q: "Oh. I see. Well then, just dinner, and nothing to drink, I suppose?"

How about a survey that includes: "Keep the current system" as an option?

My .00000002 cents (or is that sense?)

If you can see the results, then someone has already voted from your computer.

Actually, in this poll I am specifically trying to find out what the mood is ASSUMING that we went with paid workers. Whether or not to go with paid workers is a different survey.

Note to everyone - this does NOT mean that we have decided to go with paid workers!

I originally was going to have the option you mention, but if you chose "keep the system", I would lose the sense of whether YOU would willingly (or grudgingly) pay the $10 should we go with paid workers, or whether you would quit coming to the events.

This is just one more factor in making a decision whether or not to use paid workers.

Its a matter of math. If 75% want to have paid corner workers, 25% want to keep it as it is.... :D

Sorry, had to chime in... :)

Note that there is nothing that prevents instructors from taking their students out on the track to observe from the corners.

In fact, you could move to different corners, rather than standing at one corner for 1-1/2 hours. :)

Everybody please note that I am not necessarily a proponent of paid corner working. This whole project is an attempt to respond to the concerns/desires expressed by a significant number of club members.

Kim: I think that you missed Dan's point; I read it to mean that Dan very much enjoys cornerworking and, therefore would like to put his name at the top of the list to be a paid worker. Or was it that he would like to be on the permanent corner worker staff but waive any financial renumberation because he loves it so? Either way, I think you have a least one in the bag.

David - doesn't it hurt when your tongue is that far in your cheek?

Of course, my immediate reaction to "I think that you missed Dan's point" was to prepare a rant  , since that seems to be the usual forum response to such statements.
Then I read the rest of it and chuckled (sorry - not a full LOL on that one). :)

Since I scored a year's worth of autocrosses at the Charity Auction, does this mean that I get paid corner workers with no additional costs? I'm starting to warm up to this idea.

As long as Kim's survey is up for critique.... I think there needs to be something between "cheerfully" and "grumble", maybe "grudgingly and quietly"...

I don't think I've ever parted with any amount of money "cheerfully". But that doesn't mean I would complain about it either...

How about the following for the next survey:

* We don't need any stinking corner workers!
* Pay me the $10 and I will work corners.
* $5 bid - do I hear $6?
* I spent $10 in gas to get here and drive, $1000 in tires, $40 to register, and $5000 prepping my car, and you want me to pay $10 more?
* I'll pay the $10, but complain loudly for the next couple of years.
* I'll pay the $10, but grumble to anyone who will listen.
* I'll pay the $10, and sit and fume silently.
* I'll pay the $10, and silently support the policy.
* I'll pay the $10, and loudly support paid workers.
* I'll pay $20 if it will help keep me off the corners.
* I'll pay $100 if these threads stop.
