The PDS is coming up fast and we are getting close to being sold out. If you are on the fence or know someone who is on the fence, it's time to sign up! Also, instructors, we NEED you as always to make this event possible. If you have not replied to Bill Behun (or have not gotten an email from him), please get in touch with him ASAP.

I'm looking forward to this event but had a question about tires.

1) I had a tire plugged and patched due to a nail - it was a Porsche N-rated tire and was practically new with only 1-2k miles on it. Fortunately, the plug is right in the center of the tire and nowhere near the sidewall - the tire keeps pressure just fine too. I'm guessing it would be fine to use in this event, but wanted to check-in with those of you with more experience.

2) Next - can I expect to destroy my tires? I autocrossed my Z4 at Qualcomm with a set of nearly dead tires a couple years ago. Needless to say - the surface killed what was left of them. Granted it was a hot day...

Joe,

To answer your questions:

1) A plugged/patched tire like you describe is fine for the school and our Autocross events. I would not recommend using this tire at a "big track" event; however, as the stresses put on tires is much greater.

2) "Destroy" is a relative term. Will you experience noticeable wear on your tires, absolutely. You will be pushing the car and the tires to their limits so it is to be expected. That said, we do use soapy water for the skidpads and other portions of certain exercises to reduce the wear on your tires. So, if your tires don't have much life left on them then you might use them up over the weekend. However, if you have say 50% tire left, you will leave with plenty of street miles left on them.

Hope this helps and we look forward to having you at the school!
