From the Rennlist, a lap of Sebring in a GT3RS:

Very nice quality, steady picture, and some good driving going on.

Yes, this is very cool, however the over zealous nature of the driving results in an over fish tailing and smacks into some other cars detroying the front end. I tried to post the link but he has removed it from that location....maybe is is trying to sell the car and does not want anyone to know...

Man there is nothing like a Cup car.

I am happy to see that I am not the only one that uses every gear while downshifting.

The seat is a bit scary, I was expecting to see the driver ending up on the passenger side at some point of the video

I also use every gear when downshifting, but have never gone from 6th to first! I thought 5th to 2nd at Fontana was bad...

So why do you guys use all the gears when coming down? I have always just gone directly to the gear myself, albiet, once I have slowed down enough to engage that gear!

many gears

Kary, they are young and have all that energy to burn off... Or, they can't wait to get SMG when they will have to go through all the gears!

Yes the 6-5-4-3-2-1 was interesting; all the gears appear to be very close to each other on that GT3RSR and matched to the track.

I am not sure exactly why, but with the 5-4-3-2-1 system I don’t have to think and it works the best for me.

With the 5-2 etc, I am more likely to make mistakes like let go the brake to early and spin or worth bend a valve. I wasn’t any faster au contraire with the skipping 1 or 2 gears while downshifting I had to fight with an unstable rear end especially at high speed.

It would be an interesting poll to see who people downshift, my guess it probably varies from an AutoX and a Big Track event.

Good idea martin. I willpost a poll on this. I doubt too many auto-x'er really ever down shift more than 1 gear at our auto-x's, but there might be exception for some that do go into 1st gear.

Well, Kary, this was his qualifying lap, so I imagine he was hanging it out a bit. Since he was a second or two faster than some guy named Wolf Henzler, I think he couldn't leave much on the table and was going all out. He even complained about being held up by two cars... :D From what I remember about the discussion on Rennlist, his accident didn't happen in qualifying, it was in the enduro race (which he led most of), going into a corner a little hot, tracking out too far and hitting some dirt on the track and spinning out, collecting a car behind him. I didn't hear anything about it being anything other than a "racing incident". The still pics of his wrecked front end are still up on the net, so I don't think he's trying to hide anything.

Bob-
His seat is bolted down, it just flexs that much pulling 1.5 Gs. The Sebring track is very bumpy from what I hear.

BTW, I always go down thru the gears sequentially, as he was doing (just not that fast. :D ) I feel like the car is more stable under braking when it is in gear than when the clutch is depressed, and I am just used to rowing thru the gears in order, I guess-- it helps me find the right one to always do it the same, habitually. Hearing my engine revs drop as I brake also gives me a clue as to when I can do the next downshift without looking at the tach or speedo and I'm always in the right gear to speed up if something happens in front of me.

Well!.............
Where do we start?
That ain't no cup car! Not with those flairs. GT3RS sounds about right....or RSR.
The sound track is off by at least a half second making things seem to happen faster than they really do. The clutch throw on these cars is incredibly short, but the sound being off makes it sound instantaneous! Watch and listen for yourself. according to the sound, he hits the throttle before he's in the next gear!
The driver seems pretty quick. He's really squeezing the car hard. There's a few instances of oversteer, but nothing seriously bad. He balances the car out and continues at speed.
I, too, run through the gears when downshifting. That way I can hit the throttle if needed to take evasive action in the braking zone. It also helps keep track of rpm's so that you know it's ok to heel and toe to drop another gear. BUT REMEMBER, the downshifting should never take longer than the braking time, right?! It's very uncommon to have to downshift more than 2 gears when you have 5. This car in the video has 6 gears. At Buttonwillow, it's 5th to 3rd (coming out of the esses, CW)or 4th to 2nd (going into the offramp, CCW). At Willow, you only drop one gear at a time. Fontana on the back straight into turn 3-you drop 2 gears. The more gears you got, the more work you do!
The seat he's using is a Recaro Pro Racer model. It isn't flexing that bad and the wide angle lens of the camera makes it look worse than it really is.
