I was especially impressed by John Dimock's performance at the Zone 8 autox at the Speedway. He won the CS class and placed 13th overall out of some 65+ drivers with a 50.915 sec. run in a 1976 912E. That's some good driving in a very underpowered car. Kim Crosser also did really well, breaking into the top ten at 9th overall with a 50.134 on his best run.

Of course, Tom toasted me with a 49.337. I was determined to catch him, especially after our chat before timed runs, but he beat me by almost a second - taking a 6th top time.

Nice driving to all the SDR reps - San Diego Region drivers took first places in AS (Herb Meeder), CS (John Dimock), GS (Tom Tweed), LS/S (moi), MS/S (Tim Souza), MS (William Thorp - 3rd TTOD), NS/S (Juan Fernandez), and NS (Jose Garcia). Kathy Smalley of SDR turned in a 4th TTOD in MS, for a 2nd place behind William Thorp.

It was actually a fun, tight track - having a brick wall and curbs in place of cones was different  . It was about 1/2 as long as a Q West track, but there were some interesting sections to be mastered (and I guess Tom proved to be a better master of his domain  ).
