I had a few extra hours in Philadelphia today, so I finally made it to the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum. I highly recommend it!

In addition to the fantastic collection, which includes many historically significant Maseratis, Ferraris, Alfas, Bugattis and Jags, and the Porsche 917LH "Hippie Car", Bonham's was setting up for their "Preserving the Automobile" Auction to be held on Monday, so the place was packed full!

I had also an amazing experience here. I was fortunate enough to visit with my step mother whose dad was a contemporary auto aficionado and friend with the youngster Doctor. Seeing her light up with Dr. Simeone was a pure joy just to sit quietly and listen. The collection is fabulous, so many vintage European race cars, old NASCAR machines. its amazing poking around looking at them how far safety has come and the pure roots of such machines as the Veyron.

Apparently they are all in running order and once or twice a year they take them the to the parking lot out back to run them a bit. I'd like to be there for this. Amazing collection and a fantastic fabrication and restoration shop in the back.
