Need a set of 4.5x15 Fuchs to finish up my 67S - anyone have a set they'd like to sell?

Boy, I wish I'd held on to the last two sets of those I had. They are getting to be unobtanium these days. The last set I saw change hands was $8K, and there are people asking 6 figures for them. They're necessary for a really nice "original" restoration project, but the really bad joke about them is that if you want to actually drive the car, they're horrible for handling. The first thing I did when I got my '67S was take them off and put some 6" Fuchs on it. The car was so much more stable at speed, especially in a crosswind, that I never went back to the original rims.

The best thing to do is watch the Early 911S Registry classifieds for them, or Pelican Parts or eBay. Sometimes you can find them on Samba since the VW guys bought those for their bugs too.

Good luck with your search. You will have to have patience and a boatload of cash ready to dump on them when they come up for sale. Here's one long shot for you--the Big 3 auto parts swap meet is this weekend at Qualcomm. There will mostly be old American parts for sale, but sometimes there are some hidden Porsche part deals available. You have to walk the whole lot and find the right vendor, but if you're seriously looking, I wouldn't miss it. You might get lucky...

Tom, is right.
The 4.5 wheels are just terrifying on a SWB car.
68-71 "S" wheels are preferred but any 5.5 or 6 inch Fuchs will work great to drive the car on.
And not driving a 67S in anger is a sin...

Much appreciated - I wasn't really planning to mount them, I simply want them to "complete" the build. I have full sets of 7Rs, deep 6s and 5.5s at our shop, but I can't for the life of me find any 4.5s. I was planning on using the deep 6s as I know how sketchy the originals can be, but I was hoping to get the 4.5s before they out value the car. lol

Good call on this weekend's swap meet, I'll give it a shot and keep scouring the other boards.. hopefully something will turn up. Thanks for the feedback guys!

BTW: seems like every time I go to look for 67S reference photos your old 306831S pops up. :D

I would just put a pair of the 7Rs on the rear and the deep 6s in the front and call it done, myself, but I understand the desire to have an original 4.5 set to go with the car. I sold the original set from mine when I got it in favor of mounting 6" Fuchs, but then later regretted it and bought another set, even though I never used them. They went with the car when I sold it. AFAIK, old 306831S is now undergoing a complete restoration by the president of the Porsche Club of Holland. Sold it a little too soon.... :banghead:

Was considering the 7Rs as that's what I have on the 911R tribute, although I wasn't sure if they'd fit without the LWB rear flares (7" I believe). I suppose I'll find out after my next trip to the shop.

I saw the sold date on your early S and thought "oh man, that suuuuucks!" But how could anyone know 2013 and beyond was going to turn cars you couldn't give away a decade before into such a hot commodity. I remember passing up on a early '65 911 in Dolphin Grey for $6500 because it was "way too high for such a clunker". Doh.

Greg,

7" American mags are pretty cool looking on an early car.
