IROC at RIR. I was there. My dad took us to all of the races and we could usually be found climbing the bleachers at turn 6. I believe this locked in my love affair with the Porsche 911. I was already a fan of the 914 since my Godmother had one in Irish Green.

Ah yes, of all the "M&M" colors of the IROC cars, Aubergine is my favorite. I wish Porsche would bring back more of these classic colors as standard or optional choices. AUbergine is still not even available as an approved "Paint to Sample" color from Porsche. The closest they've come to Aubergine is Ultraviolet, and it's WAY flashier, not as sophisticated and subdued, IMHO. Of course, Slate Grey (single stage, non-metallic) is still my favorite classic color, but they never used that for the IROC cars, AFAIK, probably because it's too subdued. I was out at Porsche of San Diego the other day and saw the new 2017 3.0 Carrera launch vehicle in Graphite Blue Metallic, a standard "upgrade" color for 2017, and I thought it was a very handsome color:

It was in the showroom, so the metal flake in the paint didn't show at all and it looked like a "flat" color. I'd have to see it in the sun to know if I like it with the metallic "pop."
