The course map for this Sunday's autocross is posted on the live results site:

Since last month's new hybrid-style course seemed to be popular, we're doing a similar theme for this weekend.

For those that missed the April AX, there will still be sections of traditionally coned course layout (indicated by solid black lines on the map) with some "SCCA-style" open elements interspersed between those familiar sections.

The course is carefully designed to try to minimize the chance of anyone getting lost, but it still might be worth carefully studying the map to prepare for the event.

Some of the advantages of these new elements are: more freedom to choose your driving line, wider variety of elements, added visual interest, more challenging, and fewer cones to manage. As people learn to identify the special marking cones (described on the map legend), there is less chance of "cone blindness" with this open style compared to the traditional layout style.

I included a dotted gray line on the map just to clarify the "middle-of-the-road" path through the elements (of course, not a good driving line). On the day of the event, we will have a couple of enlarged printed maps taped to tables that include two different driving line strategy examples (blue and red lines). Those examples are simply meant to spur some thoughts, conversation, and experimentation to help you determine the best line for your car. We'll also have printed handouts of the online map available.

Questions and feedback are welcome before and after the event.

I will be up at the Buttonwillow DE & Club Race this weekend.

Can someone shoot some photos and possible someone write an article?

Thanks
Greg

Just an FYI:
A possible complication when leaving the event this Sunday is that the Amgen Tour of California bike race will be running the first stage past the stadium on Friar's Rd. in the afternoon. How this will impact traffic in and out of the stadium I'm not sure, but there certainly will be some lane closures to allow the riders to race down the road at some point. The race starts in Mission Bay at 11:30AM and goes downtown, then to Imperial Beach, then east to the backcountry for some mountain climbing, then returns to Mission Bay via Mission Gorge Rd. and Friar's Rd, possibly around 2:00-3:00PM. Hopefully, it will be over and past the stadium when our event ends, but getting in and out (for gas, etc.) may be dicey at some point. Here's a link to a PDF map of the route:
