West Lot Split in Half!

I just got back from an SCCA AX at the West Lot. Qualcomm have put concrete barriers and split the lot in half. I heard it was going to stay that way. Can anyone shed any more light on this?

Hi Robert,
Thank you for the heads up. I will stop by there tomorrow and assess the situation and then speak with the Stadium Authority on Monday.

Gents,
Don't know if this is the reason, but I saw on the news Bernie Sanders had some sort of rally in the parking lot Saturday evening. Sounds like it may have been for that?

I just happen to be driving by Qualcomm yesterday and noticed the West Lot split in 2 with K rails as indicated and no "openings" to drive through as is sometimes done in the SE lot. Looked like SCCA was running an event and only using the side closest to Friars road. No one in the south quadrant of the West Lot... Bernie's event was in the far corner of the NE lot nearest the oil tanks and only about 100'X100' with stage and all.
Just speculation on my part, but unless there is an immediate event reason for splitting the lot, I'm wondering if the stadium is going to try and rent out both sides for events at the same time?

I spoke to Mark earlier today to see if he had an update after talking to the Stadium folks this morning. They said they will remove the barriers this week before our event.
I drove by around 1pm today and they were still in place, but if anyone else happens to drive by in the next couple of days, please take a look to confirm if they are gone. That will save Mark a trip to confirm.

Marcus, I'll save Mark the trip no problem, I work and live close to the Q, I will drive by Wednesday, and also as it gets closer to this weekend.

Mark Curran and Marcus, not sure when the stadium advised they would move the barriers, but as of 6am this morning they were still in place, I'll swing by again tomorrow and Friday.

I participate in the SCCA events. My understanding is that the barriers were there at the last minute for a special event - but the stadium may segment the lots in the future. It is critical for groups such as ours to have a clear understanding of exactly which sections we are really entitled to use and respect the stadium if they do present boundaries.
Here is a video of my best run from that event. Time was a 52.826. In spite of the West lot being cut off, I think TART did an admirable job making a fun course.

Thanks Kris,
We have a good relationship with the stadium, and it is common for us to be in communication with them about the K-Rails. In fact, for every event we do in the southeast lot, I submit a map to the stadium a week ahead of the event to confirm that they are OK with moving any K-Rail sections that we request (since they frequently set up K-Rails in that area). They are always happy to do it for us. Sounds like we'll just have to keep an eye on the west lot now too if they plan to start using the K-Rails more frequently in that area too.
