PDS Autocross Map for Sept 25, 2016

For any interested PDS instructors and students, here is a link to the autocross course map that we have planned for this Sunday.

PDS Autocross Map PDF (preliminary)

I'm posting the link in case any instructors want to be prepared to explain how students can reinforce driving skills from the Saturday exercises with some of the upcoming AX elements on Sunday.

We may need to make minor changes to the PDF map based on asphalt conditions after Saturday's exercises, but I will bring hard copies of the final map on Sunday morning that will reflect any possible adjustments.

Yes, we'll be bringing Smurf out Sunday afternoon to stretch its legs after recovering from Laguna Seca. We haven't driven it at an AX in a long time, so it should be fun for us and the students that take a ride.

Just as something to consider, since we hope these students will enjoy AXing and come back, if there is a simple area to use the new open course design being used at AX, it might be a good learning tool to have it here as well. Just make it very obvious where the track goes.

Jad,

Thanks for the recommendation. We figured the safest thing this time was to use a more traditional course, since at least a few people recommended that for this PDS AX. However, the planned course has eight areas where you can see significant extra width in the track. We designed those areas very carefully to facilitate additional learning that has some similarities to open elements. I don't want to give too much away, in case any PDS students read this before Sunday, but I'm sure you can see what I mean.

But, as the AX regulars and instructors in the club get more comfortable with the open AX design, maybe it does make sense to introduce some conservative open elements at the next PDS AX in Spring to give the students that exposure.

Great. Just wanted you to consider it as it may help students, and instructors, get familiar with that course style. Sounds like you are on it.
