Stadium Track condition question

I havent been down there in quite a while but would like to attend some ax's. My only issue is the condition of the surface and would it not be advisable
to run a new car there? I've been told not a good idea by a couple of people but wanted to see if they were just trying to keep me out of contention.. :D

Thanks All,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Surprisingly, the stadium has been doing more asphalt patching than we expected this past year, although some patches aren't as smooth as we'd like. The most recent patches were added just a few week ago, and were done pretty well. In my opinion, a newer car with factory suspension is probably the better bet to run at the stadium. I notice far fewer issues with surface irregularities when I drive my 2014 Cayman S vs. my older dedicated track/AX car (1981 911sc with pretty stiff suspension). Now, if you have a rock-hard suspension and ultra low-profile 20" tires on your new car, you may want to be careful. In the past, we've had a couple of new GT3s scrape as they cross the drainage swale, so we've been much more conservative about designing the track to cross that more slowly and at a very sharp angle, and we haven't had an issue since.

Thanks Marcus,
Was concerned about rocks/concrete and the paint as well.

Appreciate your input!

Thanks,
Dan

Maybe now that we're not going to build a stadium downtown, the city will repave the parking lot? It IS falling apart.

No :banghead:
They will likely put in a new stadium with parking structures and then use the rest of the property for some commercial use to subsidize the stadium costs :surr:

New stadium? No, thanks, Already got one that we spent millions on to "upgrade." :banghead:
I remember when they paved last time (late 80's?) . It was glorious. We could put the track anywhere!

Hi Dan - Good times racing with you in the past!

We have had some body and under panel damage from the surface breaking up until the Corner Workers clear out the chunks, and/or alter the track. Of course, we are two competitive Drivers, with lots of seat time at the Q. It has been worth every penny rather than not driving it.

Thanks Jennifer! It was fun competeing! If this was a more of a dedicated car I wouldnt mind but being new I will have to think about it a bit. Probably next year.

Hope to be out there with you guys soon!

Dan

Hi Dan,
Your new Porsche looks like a rocket.
Take your wife and radar detector up to Carmel for the weekend.
Have some nice meals and enjoy Laguna Seca on a 92 db PCA DE day.

Actually the rough surface at the Q seems to benefit the street cars.
Compliant street cars soak up the bumps and your nannies can tame the loose gravel and lack of traction.
Watching the Q AX straight line drag strip starts with the GT3s and launch control is impressive.

A couple of years ago in the old 450hp Vette it was a riot at the Q.
On an off camber straight the surface was so loose I had to lift or the rear would spin and slide down the hill while trying to go straight.
Imagine its similar to trying to stay on the bank at Daytona in the rain during slower/caution flag speeds.

Or you could be in Carmel slurping wine and seafood while enjoying Laguna Seca.... 8)

The last time I was there, (nearly a year ago), I drove through 2 asphalt patches that the course took us through.
One patch was OK, the other one broke up badly as we drove through / around it. Badly as in asphalt bits were flying into my drivers window. It was only a matter of time before the potential rock chip damage would outweigh the fun factor, so I have not gone back.

My loss.

Cheers
