Please fill out the poll in this thread and/or comment if you'd like to have the cancelled May 12 autocross reinstated. This is our last year at Qualcomm, let's make the most of it.

Day before Mother's Day as a reason to cancel?

I get the 4/14 cancellation, particularly in regard to CFOS and PDS timing.

Those events take Herculean efforts to make happen by a ton of volunteers. It's exhausting.

5/12 cancellation seems pretty soft by comparison.

I think something that is getting overlooked is the financial viability of back to back events.
5 of the last 6 events were barely over break even attendance and we cant afford to lose money on these events.
Also these events take 35-40 volunteers to run not including corner working/instructing.
In tech I average 3-4 members who show up at 6 and leave at 9 to support the club and not even drive!
When we only have 65 drivers getting 40 volunteers is very difficult and puts a huge strain of all chairs involved.
Plus when we have multiple TT', a PDS and CFoS all in the first third of the year volunteers are going to choose.
Would you use your weekend pass for an AX or two or CFOS?

A dropped event will increase demand and hopefully get our numbers back up.

Steve,

Those are all good and valid points. I'm particularly in awe of (and grateful to) the people who show up every month to help with setup and tech even when they don't have a full day free to stick around and drive.

I was hoping that we'd get a sufficient groundswell of support to at least do a smaller, non-points event with a higher fee and more runs, but the rate of response so far doesn't seem to support that.

Not everybody who AX's reads the forum.
I voted for my brother, Tony, who will be out here at that time.
I'll be at Gator by the Bay fest all weekend.

+1. Familiarity breeds contempt ... especially for volunteers .... who don't actually drive at the events they volunteer at.

Absence makes the heart (and wallet) grow fonder. 8)
