Eternal Optimism

Postby Tom Helvey on Tue Mar 24, 2020 7:19 pm

Hey, it's not all that bad.
Vollig is building my trailer and installing the custom hitch and AiM Solo in my car this week.
They're considered an essential industry and I agree.
I was also one day under the limit for the oil change on my Boxster! I probably would have been a day over if everything wasn't cancelled.
If Bear's Tires is still in business, I'm taking my wheels there to have them install my new gomme when my trailer is ready.
I'll let you google gomme. :)
Can't wait to get it all back and drive at the next track event!
DMV is shut down so I have no idea how to register my new tire trailer now. I really want to get 4RE71R for the license plate.
Maybe the cops will give me a break on the way to CVR.
Thanks Adam!
It's all good.

Technically, the DMV is NOT shut down.

"Effective immediately, customers whose transactions require an in-office
visit will be served on an appointment-only basis. Due to customer demand,
there are currently no appointments available."

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/wcm/conne ... OD=AJPERES

There are penalties and fees for late registration. I'd suggest asking for a
penalty waiver by filling out Section G of the Statement of Facts REG 256 before
you stop by for a visit.

For expired vehicle registration and driver license, it's up to law enforcement
to exercise their discretion.

My responsible side tells me yeah, I should definitely do that, my other side says F that, it's not my fault they can't handle my registration for a freakin' tire trailer.
I'll register that puppy as soon as I can, I just don't see any opportunity to do so in the near future. I guess I'll just have to pay the fine if I get cited by CHP. :) I suspect I might get a break until the DMV is open for business again.

Well, it's official now. All DMV field offices will be closed until 01 Apr.

If you go here, https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/dmv/vr, you can click on Special Interest and Personalized Plates and see if a plate is available. 4RE71R appears to be open.

Awesome, even if I suck at driving, I'll look good doing it. :)

I got my car back and tire trailer today. It's awesome.
I managed to hit Bear's within minutes of closing and got my new tires loaded on the trailer.
Still learning how to manage a trailer towed behind a Boxster, but it seems to work pretty well.
All of my wheels stayed on the trailer on the way home.
I did manage to bury the little rubber bumper on the kick stand deep into my lawn :)
