Bent Wheels

Postby Chris Benbow on Thu May 12, 2005 8:50 pm

I actually bent two of my cookie cutter wheels while racing at California Speedway last month and would like to repair/straighten them rather than replace. Does anyone know of a shop in town that can do this?

Chris, I had black forest send out a wheel I bent at California speedway when I had a flat coming out of tuen 2 last year. Whoever they were they did a good job. Check with John.

Chris,
I bent one of my Fuchs in a pothole last year and my insurance paid for a pair off of E-bay ($420) rather than one from porsche ($900) the new rims were perfect. I'm not saying that you should tell stories to your ins. but are you sure that you didn't bend them in a pothole? :burnout:

In fact, I did bend them in a pothole, tracking out a little too far in turns 6 and 9 respectively. I can get Cookies pretty cheap off of E Bay but I'm just trying to find someone local that might be able to straighten them even cheaper. A lot of the time the ones on E Bay are bent as well!

Kary, Thanks for the advice. I'll give John a call.

I have 3 bent late offset phone dials as well. Anybody want to use them for a Porsche hose reel?

There is a shop in El Cajon: US Wheel Repair (619) 596-8033 1000 W Bradley Ave Ste P
El Cajon, CA

I haven't used them but they come recommended.

Thanks Mike,
US Wheel is where I went with mine. This is the same place that Black Forest uses. A small place between Santee and El Cajon. They've done a fair amount of work for club members in the past and prices are reasonable. They will repair bent wheels, refinish, and even polish them.

Maybe we should move this thread to FAQs for future reference, not that I'm planning on needing it soon....

Gee Chris, I seem to remember a certain-someone who bent two of his wheels at a big track event in January. He apparently hit a pot-hole by going too high on a gator thru the chican after the bowl.

I'll just say, I can relate. I can also say I went to US Wheel Polishing in El Cajon. Talked to Carlos. One wheel saved :D . One wheel dead  .

Good guys there. I'd recommend them, too.
