Transponder recommendations

I know the club recommendation is to get the old AMB TRANX 260 because the newer versions have subscriptions.
But I was checking on their website and apparently AMB is offering non subscription transponders again, with the TR2 GO model, for $599: https://speedhiveshop.mylaps.com/tr2-transponder-car.html
I assume this model works with PCA timing, since its says "Compatible with all MYLAPS (AMB) timing systems"

On Ebay the old 260 goes from $450 to $600 depending on condition and seller.

From my point of view, now it is not worth getting the older model for almost the same price of a newer one, considering the old might not have a fresh battery.
I am missing something? Any cons to getting the TR2 GO?
What you guys think?

The old (non-subscription) xponders seem to come and go availability-wise. I bought mine new in one of those availability windows last year and it works just fine when mounted correctly. My xponder did not come with a charger; I had to buy that (and a mounting bracket) separately.

At CVR, one driver had to rent a transponder because their new AMB transponder wasn't working. (could have been a one off)
At Streets, two drivers had issues getting their laps recorded because their transponders were not oriented correctly. (sideways)
I suspect the timing loop at Streets may be a little weak, reorienting the transponders seemed to solve the issue for both drivers.
I got the same transponder Rob has last year and it works fine.
Without that option, I would probably go for the new non-subscription one, the price is about the same.

There is a kit available to turn the battery powered AMB transponders into a direct wired one, negating any concerns about battery life or remembering to charge it. https://discoveryparts.com/mylaps-amb-t ... nders.html

I am running a stock car pretty much, not sure running wires for transponder would be feasible.

Rob, do you remember how much it you paid for the batch from last year? was it still around 500-600?
