BEST body repair shop

Postby Kim Crosser on Thu Apr 08, 2021 10:07 am

Hi,
My wife's Panamera has picked up some scrapes and minor dings. Nothing major, but we would like it returned to "as new" condition. Any recommendations for who does the BEST "body beautiful" restorations?
We are in North County, but willing to go anywhere in SD County to get a great job done.
Thank you,

Best?????????
I've been very happy with Ryan @ Collisions Plus Performance in the auto mall area, Escondido.
Specifically ask for Ryan and tell him you are a picky porsche owner.

BEST is gonna be Phil Thearle's from what I hear (I've never used em), but you're gonna pay for the BEST...

Amato's Auto Body is probably the best shop in San Diego https://amatosautobody.com/
They do repairs on virtually every luxury marque and are certified by Porsche.
They're not cheap, but they're really good.
I had a Jaguar XE that was sideswiped by a semi, they restored the car to new condition, glad I didn't have to pay for it.

Amato's is EVIL.
I would NEVER give them a $0.01 of business.

Go to Maaco instead.

There are two "Amatos" body shops. We've had several jobs done at Chris Amato's Body Werks here in Oceanside. They've expanded their shop facilities a lot over the last few years, presumably due to gaining business. They do aluminum as well. There is another body shop in the Oceanside airport complex that EXACTLY copied Chris' maroon and grey building paint scheme. Very odd. Chris' office is on San Luis Rey Rd. Not inexpensive

No idea, my experience was top notch. Please explain.
Amato's is where the dealers go.

Because MAACO was mentioned: a short story. Remember the Mystery Weekend about 5-6 years ago? We drove thru rain aftermath; spent the night in Palm Desert. On the way I unavoidably hit a BIG tumbleweed that really and truly scratched the clear wrapped front of our 2011 Carrera GTS. Looked bad. I went to the MAACO near Oceanside airport and a guy there - Albert? - viewed the damage, went to get a bucket of water, some rags, goop and wet-sanding paper (very fine grain). I couldn't watch. He carefully removed almost all of the damage. The damage was all in the film, NOT the paint! For free; no charge. Magic. When I went back a couple years later with another car he didn't work there anymore. The work I needed done (was on our Jeep Cherokee) was totally screwed up; total waste of money. Point being that WHO is still at the body shop to do the work can be not just really important, but where it's at!

I think you might be right, an overzealous car wash/detailer knocked the J off the JAGUAR applique on my F-Type.
I emailed them for a quote to replace the applique but they couldn't be bothered.
I ended up buying the OEM part but now I'm looking for a body shop to peel the old one off and stick the new one on.
I have no problem if they don't want my money, I can take my business elsewhere.
They did a great job on my XE, but they're sucking now.
