Autocross & PDS will be back! Mark your calendars

Postby Bill Behun on Tue May 18, 2021 10:19 pm

We've searched places to drive and they are dwindling. :banghead:
El Toro is gone now, Fontana is a long drive. Sheriff's training center still not constructed in Otay Mesa.
HOWEVER - we are in final negotiations with the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium and have just set dates.
This fall we have two AX's set - on Saturday Oct. 2 and Sunday Dec. 5 - - with a PDS Nov. 20 and 21. These dates were set to be at least 2 weekends away from our track events.
Lake Elsinore is not that bad a drive for north county folks.
The stadium lot has quite nice pavement and has their restaurant open on the weekends.
Stay tuned for more info but MARK YOUR CALENDARS! :burnout:

And if you get bored between run groups, Skydive Elsinore is close.

Thanks Bill to you and team.

Be well.

Are there noise limitations at Elsinore?

Jad - Yes there is a noise limit of 93 db. :bigcry:

However - I'm bad -out of respect for you and your driving AND because you like challenges - I put into the Lake Elsinore contract a db limit for YOU to keep you within striking distance of beating you in the BRI.

So: Tesla Model 3 Performance = 67.2 dB at 80km/h I was gracious and set it at 68db. Enjoy the challenge! :burnout:

Pure Track focused on the Lake E stadium and the Anaheim baseball stadium - the two exclusively. Seemed to work well for them. I've been out of the autocross arena for quite some time...but still observe from the peanut gallery. With this in mind, I want to offer sincere THANKS and APPRECIATION to Bill and any/all of his cohorts that have so diligently searched for a new site. Great work!! Eventually our annual Big Bash will happen again, and my suggestion is that Bill and Team should be awarded a Major Accomplishment Medal...perhaps with a V for Valor, but for sure a P for Persistence!!

All honors to Bill for finding a new AX venue. Satellite views show 3 lots at the Stadium at 500 Diamond Dr. May we assume that we will use the largest one (overflow parking C)? Members should be aware that there is a long-standing CHP speed trap on the I15 between Escondido and the truck scales. It is used for training and frequently has more than one radar setup. Ask me how I know. Bill, thanks for giving us enough time to shop for tires and helmets.

@JayG, I've got no sympathy for someone that's 30 minutes from COTA!

More like an hour from Lago Vista and COTA is expensive. Hill Country PCA does a couple of DE's at COTA and they run $1,100 for 3 days. The SDR events are a bargain!!!

I was at COTA in Oct for the SCCA pro F3/4 championships doing some in car video. Its a beautiful track and I got to do 1 lap in the pace car so I could check our radios. I look forward to driving it in my car one of these days.

There are a bunch of tracks within a 4 hour drive as well. Once we get finished unpacking and settling in, I will check out the local PCA and some of the tracks. One I want to do is a rallycross track about an hour away. They even rent cars pretty cheaply

Hey All,

So now I drive about an hour to Bremerton, WA for a monthly autocross on an old airfield (Flat, there and back, virtually identical month to month) and get a total of 4 runs (not 4 timed runs, 4 *total*) in an entire day... Dang we had it good :banghead:

Views are nice though.

On the plus side, there are real road courses within 30 minutes of home now

Hope all are well!

The Ridge is supposed to be a real nice track! You'll have to check it out and report back.

I just checked out the Project 0 website, it looks super promising. I might go to one of their drift events to get some skid pad time and check it out.

Wow! I checked out the website for Project 0 yesterday and they had at least 5 drifting events scheduled over the next few months. https://projectoz.net/
I was going to sign up for one to check it out. I can always use more skid pad time.
Now they have nothing scheduled, which means there is a giant parking lot close to Viejas that is basically unused for anything.
It appears to be up for private rental only now.
Is anyone interested in taking a road trip out there, after WSIR, to check it out?
It may be a great place for AX and PDS, and it might be cheap to book.

The clubs (BMWCCA, PCA, and SCCA) are working with Project O to utilize the facility for AX. BMWCCA had an event last weekend that was canceled due to some construction delays. SCCA has had an event there already, as well.
