Mental vs Physical

Postby Tom Helvey on Wed Oct 27, 2021 8:04 pm

Went to a driving seminar last weekend with Ross Bentley.
He asked the question: How much of your performance as a driver is mental, and how much is physical?
He didn't answer the question directly, but most of the audience said around 90% mental.
He then went into how to overcome the mental part and refine sensory inputs.
I'm going for 3% more WOT at the next event :)

On your first two laps of your first session go out and work on the following while driving your driving line. While you work on these, the speed doesn't really matter. tires are cold anyways, this is a good time to get them up to temp, and set you up for lap 3-session end to be fast assuming no/minimal traffic.

Lap 1: work on your throttle points exiting the corner. Focus on where you want to be at full throttle, and work on getting to full throttle by then. A good goal for you should be full throttle from the apex of every corner.
lap 2: Figure out where you want to finish braking for each corner, and therefore where you need to start your braking zone for each corner
Lap 3: combine your brake and throttle points from the first two laps, while adding in the speed. This should set you up for a good "qualifying lap" pace since you know where you need to be on the gas, and where you need to be on the brakes.

Alex,
really helpful tips. Esp the reminder to determine where the braking needs to end/trail.

Eric, too funny! :roflmao:

Tom, if you are wide open on the throttle....how do you go 3% more? :surr:
