Tom Comeau's B DAY

Postby Tim Comeau on Tue Jan 31, 2023 6:20 am

For those of you who know him, my dad just celebrated his 92nd birthday. Doing quite well, he is. Mom, too. Still can't believe he autocrossed until he was 80 yrs old! You'll recall his white RS America with the bright yellow #43 decals. :D

Tim, I believe your Dad was the safety chair when I started autocrossing and or he was the one that would run the track and give it the okay in the morning before we started on the day. The all encompassing sounds of Porsche tail pipes at full wail coupled with tires screeching throughout the day could only be supplanted by your Dad's booming voice. To this day I still think of his assessments of the tracks in each our driver's meeting, "Okay everyone, listen up. We have a good track today, a fast track, but a safe track."

Happy Birthday to a great guy. Thanks for sharing.

I have fond memories of Tom. I think he was one of my first DE instructors way back when we used to have DE's at the Q (= infinite runoff, give or take a light pole or porta potty). When I'd get on it and started catching someone, he'd get excited and growl at me even louder. It really worked for me -- I'd never driven so fast in a parking lot in my life!

Happy Birthday, Chief.

Tell him "Happy Birthday" for me, Tim! I remember autocrossing with him in a Mitsubishi 3000 GT or something like that, before the RS America, no?
