John Kinkaid Passing

Postby Steve Grosekemper on Sun May 14, 2023 8:03 pm

To all SDR,

It is with a very heavy heart that tell you all of the passing of my dear friend and longtime PCA-SDR member and volunteer John Kinkaid.
John was only 57 years old and left us Friday morning May 12th from supposed heart failure.
John is survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years, Tammy.

If you did not know John, you must not have run too many autocross events over the last 3 decades.
John was a staple at autocross starting the day helping out with tech inspection, then instructing and then ending the day with refreshments as official “Beer Meister”.
John was always ready to help out and always greeted his friends with a smile and chuckle as long as he already had his morning coffee!
John drove a street 944 transformed into 944 Spec, an 87-911 and then an ‘06 Cayman-S most recently.

If john could send a message from the other side; he would say work hard but enjoy life and the people in it that you love.

I will post here about any services or information of interest.

Greg Phillips has put together an album of John through the years with PCA and his friends.

Oh Lord,
I am so sorry and sad to hear this. I pray that he is at peace and his memory will last to ease the pain left in his absence.

I'm deeply saddened about John's passing. He will be greatly missed and I will always remember his infectious positivity, laughter and our time we all spent racing together for so many years. Rest in peace my friend. :(

He was a wonderful guy, as positive as can be. We had so much fun racing against each other. We had so many runs that were .01 seconds between 1st and second place. Always ready to high five each other and congratulate. Once in the East lot we had the same exact time down to the 1/1000. When I crossed start finish I thought my run did not get registered because it was the same number on the screen! I pulled back to the start and said I need a re-run. Nope...same time!

So disappointed to hear this. First Sean and now John. They were both active in autocross when I joined the club and were quick to welcome me in. I don't even remember an autocross that John wasn't in. Always in a good mood and was a really competitive driver. I started in the spec class and I remember him finishing about a day ahead of me each run. My best to his family and close friends.

Greg, that's a great collection/tribute that you put together. Thanks for sharing.

Terribly sad news.... If I could sum up John in one word it would be "jolly." Always happy and chuckling about this or that. He was a giving person. He, and Tammy as well, loved to share their passion for the zoo as much as our P cars. We got private tours of the reptile house, aviaries, and even got to pet some tiger cubs. We're forever grateful for that experience. Glad to have had him in our lives.
Enjoy the ride......

It has been nice hearing about all the memories everyone shared with John here, in email and text and in person.
John was truly one of a kind and touched many lives.

Tammy's preliminary plan was to have a celebration of life on Johns next birthday which is July 12th.

I will keep club members updated here as details arise.

How very sad, so young! John was in my class, SS04, when I started doing AX in 2016, and was last in my class for the first few months. John was #713 and Chris English #317,and the two of them usually led the pack. John was always kind and encouraging, and later, when I eventually beat him, very gracious. Rest in peace John, you were one of the good ones!!!
