McMurtry Spéirling sucker car

Thanks to whatever algorithm controls my browsing, this article popped up in my internet feed yesterday:

Electric car development has taken a radical turn with this one. With no regard for any racing rule, which would ban this car in any established series, a group of ex-F1 engineers have taken downforce to its unexplored limits, designing a car that can generate 3G of it standing still, using 2 fans that spin at up to 23,000rpm. Combined with two 500bhp motors, it is stupid fast in both a straight line and around a corner. The prototype set a record at the Goodwood hillclimb of 39.08 seconds in 2022, two seconds faster than an F1 car.

The latest version is bigger and faster, and was tested against a 911 GT3RS, hitting 60mph in half the 911's time – 1.38secs, and was at 100mph in 2.61secs, well before the Porsche hit 60mph. And with 3G of downforce at any speed, corner entry is taken at seemingly impossible rates with no loss of grip. It could literally be hung from the roof of a tunnel standing still.

With planned production at only 100 units, and a price tag of over a million dollars, we aren't likely to see one at a track day anytime soon, but think about what it would be like to drive such a car! Or be passed by one....
