Ford GT at Encinitas Ford (0-60 in 3.3 seconds?)

In case there are any car buffs that would like to see something besides a Porsche, there is a Ford GT at Encinitas Ford. The sticker is about $150K plus about $100K "dealer markup."

Don't they list the fuel efficiency as gallons per mile for those? Very cool though...

Pretty impressive numbers for an engine that is standard equipment in an Expedition (though Roush racing did a lot of massaging to get those numbers for Ford). And Dan C., Jack Roush is one of them thar NASCAR guys!

$100K? Try $259K

Postby twitte on Fri Jun 10, 2005 7:49 pm

Martin,

After the dealer's markup they are trying to sell it for $259,000! The salesman said "We should have it sold this weekend. It's going to go fast since it's a collector's item. Jay Leno paid over $300,000 for his."

He opened the rear section to show me the motor. I also got to look inside. No comparison with the quality of a Porsche.

Lots of fools with money to be seperated from one another.. Honestly just once I would like to see Ford come down hard on profiteers that charge 100k over sticker. I can see maybe 5k or 10k for a while just like the new M3 was charging, but 100k is rediculous...
Just for the record anybody that thinks the GT3 is as cool as the Ford GT needs glasses.... I haven't seen the head to head comparisons yet but I would think the GT is a pretty capable car.

Dan, I have yet to see a Ford GT vs. GT-3 test but in the June Motor Trend magazine there is a Ford GT vs. Ferrari F430 F1. I hear those I-talians make sports cars too.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/cou ... index.html

550 Supercharged horsepower and 3468lb. curb weight is going to be fairly impressive. The article sums the two cars up by saying the GT is not the overall winner but heads back to Detriot with its head held high....

But with Ford's $100K dealer markup, the $205K (price as tested) sticker of the Ferrari almost sounds like a bargain....

Now put a nice Gulf blue and orange and that GT and then we might have a deal!

To be fair, at least compare the Ford or Ferrari to a GT2 so the prices are a little more in line, oh wait, on the track then there is no comparison, the GT3 is more in the performance league (which is a pretty awesome league).

PS They are all watercooled :D

There are several reports of problems with the GT40.

The initial batch was recalled to have the rear upper supension control arms replaced due to failures.

Several of the cars had a problem with the crankshaft finish generating leaks at the rear main seal. The fix was a "Speedy Sleeve" installation. Imagine that, a rescue part for the average joe trying to get that extra mileage out of his clunker in your new GT40!!!!

How would you like to have a GT40 that you paid $100k over list for and then have the dealer install a Speedy Sleeve in it .....

One of the British car shows got a GT40 to go around their track about as fast as a gt3 rs I believe (which was almost exactly as fast as a 360 CS).

Yes, saw it parked on the corner today at the dealer. Lots of folks standing around looking at it. Looked nice, but at 1/4 of a millon with their markup I think I would buy a Ferrari for that kind of money

They're pretty impressive. Over the weekend, I had one up to 180 mph, which is on the rev limiter in 4th. (Just a little teaser/plug for the September issue of R&T!).

Oh man, you have such a hard job to do, Doug. It must be tough! Now where is that "jealousy" emoticon when I need it? Oh well, this one will have to do.

Funny! I didn't mean to rub it in! But it's a very cool story...I wish I could tell you more, but I'd be in trouble. Perhaps that would call for a "pistol to my head" emoticon?
