New karting track in Carlsbad!

Postby Tim Comeau on Tue Aug 03, 2004 2:34 pm

There's a new indoor electric karting track in Carlsbad, off Palomar Airport Road. Opened July 30th.
It's called K1 Speed.

Website is www.K1speed.com.

Somebody up there go drive it and tell us how it was, ok? :D

Tim- they're talking about it already over on the SCCA forum

They say the karts are slow. They're keeping the fast ones in the back and won't let anyone run them yet.

SCCA?
Who's that?
Ohhhhhhhhh! Those guys......
I Think SCCA stands for "Still Can't Catch on to Autocrossing." :P
Ok, enough razzing of the other guys...........
I remember the electric karts at Speed World being really quick! So quick you had to be careful not to get wheel spin on the start. If you read the specs on the karts, they can be pretty fast as well as quick.
I understand the guy running the show is David Danglard. He's one of the French guys who was at Miramar's Speed Circuit. Him and his brother Frank? Anyway, I wish their organization well and I hope that PCA members can get a discount!
Karting is great for your driving...........I promise.

Kartin

Postby Pete Millikin on Mon Aug 09, 2004 11:55 am

I plan to get a look at the Carlsbad track this week.

A group of friends recently tried the rental carts at the Amago track at the LJ Indian reservation and had a ton of fun. Those buggers are prety fast and be prepared to take a physical beating with the g forces and (lack of) suspension. All of us were totally whipped after two sessions of 15 laps each. Although it was on the expensive side, $135/person, it was cool.

Back to the Carlsbad track. I'd love to see some competition between the water pumpers and the true porschephiles, er, air cooled devotees. Loser wears a teletubby outfit at the next autoX

I would be willing to represent the waterpumpers and Tim is usually pretty easy to convince, so I look forward to the aircooled teletubby event!

John Chambers and I went to the karting track today and it was all good. The track is challenging and the karts are pretty quick. The only bad thing about it was that the seats in the karts are to loose fitting. I had to hang on to the steering wheel alot.
Their timing system was excellent. They preach zero contact so don't be bumping!

Jad, Tim, John and any kart lover---

Looks to me that we should have a PCA event or the like--for those interested at the Carlsbad or Miramar track---better yet at the Amago place.
But if you really want to try a great track, MORAN raceway will also rent you "real" go karts for similar prices as Amago.

So, shall we start counting who is in??
A friday event may be a great day to go---
Anyone?

Hey guys,
Just some track notes.
You can take much of the track flat out.
Watch out for the turn 2-3 combo. Lots of black smears on the wall tell the tale. Trail braking works well here. As soon as you nick the wall with a very early apex at turn 3, you can go back to full throttle and open up your radius because the track opens up around the corner, even though you can't see it yet.
It is a fun little course. My best lap was a 35.09 and the fastest lap yet was a 34.14?
Good challenge!

So, how do you compare it to Miramar? What is your best time there?
