Sitting here in WSIR cooking....

...like a piece of bacon. It is 102 now at 3pm and windy. The tires are melting off the wheels and the cars are not generating much horsepower given the heated air. We are having fun despite the heat as it is always fun the get out on the track :)

I'll report back tomorrow when the temperature cools down to 100 with a chance of scattered thunder storms :)

WSIR

It never felt hotter than the mid 90's, but I am using a Cool-Shirt for the first time and it does feel great. Willow Springs is always an adventure, but so far no excitement for me
Maybe a little rain today to spice things up, I am sure turns 8 & 9 won't be much different in the wet

The OAT gauge in my car said 99-100 on Saturday. When we ran the TT today, it said 104!!!
Tires temps were 220 degs.
Did someone say rain??

One of my tires melted down on Saturday and today I think the windshield was so hot that the rock that hit it just shattered it into a large round circle of cracked glass because of the heat....oh well, that tracking your car for ya!!

I ran Stacy Smiths '74 911 for a session "purely for testing purposes" and we saw 270' on the LR and 250' on the RR!!

This was with RA-1's. The V-700 V-Racers we used to run would have come apart at about 220'. These tires performed flawlessly in the extreme heat. I was very impressed.

Everyone at this event is to be congratulated. Very fast times considering the heat and no really huge offs that I saw, that a nice detail wouldn't fix.

It really didn't seem that hot to me...
Time trial $275
Tires $600
Race Gas $150
Hotel $130
Garage $175

Coolshirt ... Priceless! :D
Thanks for the sweet deal Jae!

I will be racing a kart on Streets this coming weekend, any tips for staying cool, or at least surviving? :?:

Thanks for offering

I am hoping the LOTS and LOTS of track time and higher speeds (I should be TTOD in PCA) will keep me cool - and about 100 gallons of water.

Jad, if you know Bill Flemming say hello to him. I work with him and he was the 2002 national 125cc over 35 Champion. He is going to be out there next weekend. Ask around if you do not know him.

Will he be in an airconditioned motorhome? If so, I may talk to him a lot more than a hello :D

I'll look for him. Do you know if he is in a 125 shifter or 125 rotax style? I will be trying a friends rotax, never been in one before, but they are very quick. Should be fun and with only 3 run groups, lots of time to learn the kart and track! Trying to figure out a way to get a cool suit to work, but I think I will just have to drive faster
