Gas Prices

Postby Kenyon Blower on Wed Aug 31, 2005 11:10 pm

Just when you think we have it bad in San Diego.....

I am in Atlanta for a Superbike race at Road Atlanta. There is a rumor that Atlanta will run out of gas this weekend because of Hurricane Katrina. This has caused a rush to buy gas. The lines are out into the streets. Many stations are closing at nights. Many of the station owners are now gouging the buyers. Prices yesterday were around $2.50/gallon. It went to $2.85 today. Then the gouging began. Most stations have now raised it to over $3.50/gallon. One station was selling premium for $6.07/gallon & lines were still out into the streets. I have personally seen 2 fights when people thought others were trying to cut into line.

BTW, officials state that it is just a rumor. They say Atlanta is NOT in danger of running out of gas. :banghead:

Wow! Scary stuff going on with the extended impacts of H. Katrina. I'm glad I'm not in the south or on the east coast right now. Kenyon, hurry home, dude!

On our recent road trip to Santa Barbara we got 25 MPG (okay, 24.8 to be exact) in the 18-year old 944 cruising at between 70 to 80 on open fwy., and lots of stop-and-go through LA/San Fernando Valley. :P With that kind of mileage, I have less incentive to drive the V-8 Dodge. (Oh darn, more seat time in the P-car  )

Getting there isn't half the fun, it's all the fun when you own a Porsche..... :D

My 924 Turbo is an Audi :-(

hehe

FWIW, there is a station in Poway that mistakenly has Diesel #2 for $2.11/gal instead of $3.11/gal---guy behind me in a pickup was ecstatic!

Oh Brother, not that again! Yea yea...... okay. Audi / Volkswagen / Water-pumper ... engine in the wrong place ...... yawn .....ZZZZZZZZ. Whatever! :?

(Okay ... smack talk disclaimer: It's all in fun here, folks.)

Whatever you want to call it, it's aways entertaining when a car in KP class with 4 cylinders and less displacement (Two that I can think of: Capt. Nemo and B. Ibbitson) can leave you 6-cylinder "PORSCHES" in AM class in the dust and wishing for more ... something ..... at both the AX and Big tracks.  Whatever you want to call what you are losing to, you're still losing to these 4-cylinder 2.5L to 3.0L cars in your 3.2-litre 6-cylinder AM cars.

Now, if you really want to show off the power and awsome performance of your '73 Livery'd 3.2L AM car, bring it to OB, we have a lot of loose leaves and debris that need moving and your Blue and Orange Gulf lawn blower would be just the tool we could use. We don't have a lawn blower so we can't put out quite the hotair that you can ..... Oh, and your car puts out a lot of hot air , too!

The rumors has it that the "Audi 100" used the Porsche design engine designed by VW. Similar was the 914 in europe also called VWPorsche. Eitherway they use the same engine. The 944 actually uses half of the 928 engine not Audi or VW.

Today similar story with the Cayenne and Touareg. VW and Prosche are brothers or cusins it is just the way it is.

Being an Audi isn't exactly a bad things these days. They have totally dominated the LeMans style racing for years and the only time they didn't win LeMans is when they rebadged the car as a Bentley and the Bentley won. So the 'Audi' has finished ahead of Porsche in all the recent races. No wonder the 'audi' powered 924/944 type cars beat so many "Porsches" :P :P :P

Please, let's end the confusion.
The only AUDI engine is in the 2.0 liter 924 series cars. The 2.5 liter 4 cylinder in the 944's and later is pure Porsche design. Yes, it's half of the 928 engine.

Hey, Dan and folks, if you are ok comparing any class (which seems to be the case) why not put up the others that waxed Jad's time by more than....let's just say 4 seconds at Buttonwillow on the same day? Some of these classes are below that of AM even, hmmmmm....

Mike V 1:26.24 (hey another water pumper!)
Evan 1:27.00 (Hey another pumper :) )
Bill H 1:27.98 (Holy crap a "P" class car...)

hmmm..lets see...how many ax's have I attended this year? zero..

How many ax's had Jad beat me at over the last 2 - 3 years... zero

You talk about Jad's car like its a NA 83 944 running 225's..
Comparing classes Dan? Kary is right, Jads 'turbo' got waxed by an AM car, huge...nice try though... You have lots of partial data, but with little substance... 8)

My appologies to Jad for throwing him under the 944..er uh.. I mean bus...

Ugh, Kary, MOST of those cars did NOT 'wax my time by more than 4 seconds'. Even your own data is wrong :P And exactly how many of those cars have smaller engines or less power than mine? Zero, zilch, nada, but of course I am ashamed to be beaten in KP by prepared GT3's and other track cars on racing slicks all in higher classes:roll: . My unfair advantage of a stock drivetrain and Toyo RA-1's clearly shows your dominance over my 18 year old waterpumping 944
