911 Club Coupe

Postby Chris Benbow on Wed Sep 07, 2005 5:38 pm

Just got an E mail from PCNA that I was one of 48 PCA members selected for the opportunity to buy one of the 911 Club Coupes!
X51 power brings it up 381 bhp (same as the GT3)
Should I buy it?

I don't really get the whole club coupe thing. They already have a track tuned 911 (gt3).

I would only want it if I could buy it and sell it at a profit.

Don't buy it expecting to resell for a profit

in the short term.

Buy because you want to own something that only 49 other people in the world have.

But, why did you enter the sweepstakes in the first place if there was question in your mind? Congratulations on being selected. If it were me, I would buy it to keep forever.

Well the car costs the same as a GT3.
I'm thinking that I would rather have a GT3 even though there are more than 900 of those here in the US. A driver's car rather than a concours/collector's car.
Perhaps someone else wants it?

If that is the case...just decline the offer to purchase
Let PCNA choose another name out of the hat..

I'm not sure I know enough about the Club Coupe to give you an educated answer. Is it like the Club Sports of old? I.e. ready to Club Race, which is in my mind what the term "Club Sport/Coupe" should mean. If so the get it!

Maybe if this one is to nice for you to track you'll come race your Boxster :D.

Actually, I would probably get it and worry about what to do with it later. These sorts of opportunities don't come around all that often. At least not for me.

Chris, If you plan on selling it I do not think you will get your money out of it when you add in taxes, etc. Very difficult to make a car like that appreciate rather than the normal depreciate.

If you want a track car just go with the GT3 anyway. Great all around car and already very well purposed for the track which this club sport is not really from what I read. Alot like the GT3 but not the same.

Chris, it's baby blue...enough said.

But seriously, it is a "collector car", buy the GT3 and let some wheel-well-polisher buy the club car.

If I could get it for free I'll take it. Since it is a very cool car to own and one of fifty PCA Club anniversary cars. But, if I have to pay for it then it's not a question: get the GT3.

Maybe one of these days when I have enough of the Boxster and the 911; I will go crazy and pickup a ZERO option GT3 with an extra set of rims with V710's on them  (wife => :surr: me => )

I agree with the others. I would not spend money on the car. I signed up for the drawing for the free one, but I did not sign up for the lottery for the right to purchase one.

If you're a collector/concours type, then buy it. If not, if you're looking for a car to track, this is not it. Even if it drives as well as a GT3, this is too rare of a car to track. If you want a track car get a GT3.

Free is an interesting word... I sat down with a pen and paper and figured that free club coupe would set me back about $53,000 after all the "governmental taxes & fees". Lot of car for $50K but not really free....

That is why I drive those old Porsches...

I guess the real question is have you driven each of them and which drives better? The GT3 is too rough for the street and too soft for the track, so it will need some work, but I have no real info on the feel of the club car, do you?
