2nd oil cooler

Porsche Technical related discussions.

My understanding is that the spinning tire acts as a pump to help airflow out of the radiator in the stock set up with the face of the radiator face perpendicular to the cars direction. This produces a more efficient ducting of air and a lower drag and less lift generated by the cooling air flow.

The 3.8 RSR uses the same radiator kit I installed in my car, so Porsche choose to go with the perpendicular mounting of the radiators on their 964 based racing car as well.

Otherwise, I think if you mount it with the face forward as in a Porsche RSR 2.8 or 3.0 it will cool well, but at the expense of increased lift and drag depending on how the intake and exhaust air is ducted.

I think the most efficient way to do it would be to have the radiator with the face turned as on the 2.8 and 3.0 RSR but with the ducting up through the hood as in the current Ford GT40's water cooling radiator.
