B&B Heat Exchangers

What do you think of these? for a 3.0? better flow than SSI? I know they are'nt as pretty... but wondering from a technical stand point.

These are really built for 3.6L cars...
The primary length is not great for a small port 3.0L car.
While you will gain top end, you will loose midrange.
Also the oil cooler to tank hose has to be replaced with a special solid line and the case to thermostat line is completely different.
Heaters? Lots of modifications, but you better really want them.

I would use SSI or a pre-74 set up.
Installation is a piece of cake.
Added benefit is you can use all factory oil lines with no chaffing or heat/melting issues.

You have NO IDEA how ineffectual 225's are with 249 BHP ... well maybe you do.

Morgan, I think the SSI's are a perfect complement to the 3.0L engines. There was virtually no loss of low and mid range torque (quite the opposite). Interestingly enough, the greatest power improvements came at the 2800 to 5000 rpm range, and the top end (6500 rpm) was about the same as stock with the SSI's on the 3.0L. The greatest gains seemed to be around 4000 rpm. And, oh what a gain it was ... I'd probably skip the B&B's on a 3.0L. The SSI guys really did their homework and came up with a great product. Besides: I think the B&B is one ugly B@stard compared to the sleek, beautiful lines of the SSI's.

I am running my '79 SC (Snickers) in ISS this year instead of IS (changed to 140+ tires, keeping the aero stuff off).
Yeah, it's partially a BRI thing, but also because Toyo RA-1s aren't available yet (I tried the R-888 and found grief).

I'll do all the Time Trials and some (most?) of the autocrosses. I had good BRI results at SOW and Willow already.

Curious to see the red car again - Should be interesting...

I feel that with a more or less "STOCK" car street tires are the way to go. with the Indexing the way it is ISS will be hard to beat (BRI) on the new lines of street tires. We cant afford to build a car capable of TTOD... so why not build one capable of top Bri?

Anyways, regardless of all that we are also excited to see the car back on the road. With the engine and transmission out im finding it a pain to clean 30 years of road grime and oil leak gunk. But, in the end, it will be clean... running well... and a lot of fun. Im not looking forward to the break in period. With so many different theories on the "proper" way of breaking a motor in, the first 1000 miles will be nerve racking.
