911 SC air injection pump needed

Anybody have a 911SC air-injection pump they have removed and don't need? I am still looking for the 17 x 1 mm thin jam nut to re-attach the pulley to mine. The nut seems to no longer exist or be manufactured anywhere. Finally found and ordered one online at an appliance parts place (it fits a Gaggenau dishwasher!), but they just informed me that it's no longer available for dishwashers either. No local or online hardware supplier carries this size. Why does Porsche do this?

I have checked some dismantlers but no luck so far. Next step may be to have the end of the pump shaft machined and re-threaded to 16mm x 1.5 or something like that which really does exist.

Anybody have other suggestions? Car of course runs fine without it, but I assume it won't pass smog again 2 yrs from now without it.

What about taking a 17mm nut to a CNC machinist and having it "sliced" into a couple of 1mm thick jam nuts? You could sell the others to those in need, and cover the cost with the proceeds. Just a thought.

Have you tried ABBABA bolt, they seem to come up with a lot of discontinued nuts and bolts

You are not going to find a nut off a core.
The nuts strip out when you try to remove them.
Don't blame Porsche; they just bought the thing from a supplier.
We used to be able to get rebuilt units from Porsche for a song but so many cores were bad there are no more rebuilt units.

You can try to Google the part number but you will probably not find anything.

Don't limit yourself to 911SC; you can also use a 75-77 911 air pump.

I have found 3 new or rebuilt in the box pumps on ebay over the last year for $400-600.
If you find a used one look for a '79 pump.
It has no funny nut and wavy lock washer just a pressed on shaft and 4 allen bolts holding a pully on.
If worse comes to worse you can mig weld the pulley back on.

I have heard of people using 914 and VW air pumps in a pinch but I think there was "Some Modification" involved.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. Dan, the problem is that there's basically no such thing as a 17x1 mm nut anywhere. Even if it were thicker I could use it, but it just ain't available. I doubt if machine shops even have that size taps and dies.

Buck:I tried Ababba bolt already-- great store, but no luck there either. 16 and 18 mm yes, and down to 1.5 mm thread, but nothing closer.

Steve: my son was in a hobby shop and bought some of those aluminum nuts for me today, but when he got home I saw that they were 17mm outside, not inside diameter. Funny way to label them. I think I'll just go with your suggestion and have it welded on!

In case anybody else needs a smog pump or parts for one, I finally got the mysterious nut from an ebay pump-rebuilder:

It turns out the nut is a reverse-thread 17x1 mm, so I never would have found anything that worked. He sent me the nut and washer for $20 including shipping. The guy was quite helpful via email. He's called "dragon-up," and says he rebuilds smog and water pumps of all kinds. His prices for a smog pump rebuild seem quite reasonable ($150), and he has 100% positive feedback.

Seems like a good resource to know about.
